Turns out there are about 1100 pilots senior to me who are currently not at Delta or bidding, who could come back conceivable and bump me downwards! That includes like 170 furloughed, 250 mil leave, and a ton of sick guys. I figure that the furloughed guys who haven't come back have found other jobs and won't. But the military leave guys are probably all getting close to a retirement or bumping the Col-BG wall and they could come back, in fact it seems likely to me they would. Now the NBC SIC list... no idea what that's all about, or how many of them might ever get back to the line.
Anyways, it just seems that having 1100 potential dudes out there who could show up and bump you downwards, after 10 years, is an awful lot. I'd think most of the furlough guys will drop off the list over the next year as they exceed 10 years out.
I think its important to note that, aside from the furlough bypass guys, the number of "inactive" (sick, Mil leave, etc.) pilots is relatively constant. As guys/gals come back from Mil leave, sick, etc. someone usually goes back out to replace them.
Just for numbers clarification, we currently have 243 guys out on Furlough bypass. We had 300+, but roughly 70 of the came back last year. They have until 2015 to come back, if I'm not mistaken - so Many may still be interested in returning at some point. (If they spread it out over several years, though, even us junior pukes won't feel much pain.)
