It's probably just a matter of time before USA merges with someone anyways. In fact, any airline "could" merge. So one couldn't base their decision on that premises alone. Delta, UniCal, and SWA/AT are probably safe from any other mergers in the near future.
If history holds true, who is best or worst to work for now, won't be in the future. If you want to fly "at home" take the first job offer and hope it pans out.
True, the best today may not be the best tomorrow..BUT USAir has been terrible for nearly 20 years!!!
I'd say if you can afford the pay at USAir, take it just as a way to get back here, then keep trying for better places....Upgrade or a better pay rate at USAir is way down the road so I'd plan on their terrible payscale for quite a while...IE: don't plan on larger equipment or Upgrade pay any time this decade.
