Second, if I were DAL, I'd keep the odd gates at C and the evens at D. That way, they'd control the whole Ramp 4. That way, they could bring in an auctioneer to run the ramp freq and keep the operation moving. But, there's benefits (connections) to having everyone in D.

That makes sense, but I think if I were DAL I'd get rid of D and move all of the gates to C. Passengers are always really confused by the escalators at D since they only go one way on each side, and it is a bit narrower than the other concourses so it is really crowded, especially when US airways is boarding. The passengers spread out into the entire hallway blocking everyone from getting through. It would make sense for the low cost airline to take the narrower concourse and for Delta to move all of their passengers to what I think most would consider a bit nicer. Plus ASA just built their crew lounge on C a couple years ago and the area at the end of C where it widens out is nice and makes room for all of the gates. I haven't been on D since they put jet bridges in, so maybe they did the same there, I have no idea.
