New iPads
Do the new iPads hint that the company will be in business for the foreseeable future? The ones we have now are only 3 years old (or less depending on when you were hired). I assume the current ones have plenty of life left in them as far as the FAA is concerned so why spend the money to upgrade for a company that’s going out of business soon?

It’s not an expense when you can write it off.
“What If You Provide a Tablet to Your Employee? Morhet says that you can deduct the full cost of a tablet that you provide to an employee as long as any personal use is reported as a fringe benefit on the employee’s W-2 or the employee reimburses you for the personal use. You must be able to document what portion of the employee's use is for business..”

The company isn’t like “we made 800k, let’s spend it on iPads so we break even and don’t have to pay any taxes”
they do things like “we made 800k so we’re going to buy one of the planes from the leasing company we also own so we can reset the depreciation write-off. Then we’re going have the leasing company pay off it’s 800k loan to the finance company we also own.”
They’re not going to blow 800k on something they don’t need to spend it on to avoid paying 160k in income tax on it. Shuffle it around maybe, but not just blow it on iPads they don’t need.
That being said it’s not unlikely that the iPads are on some kind of service contract and will get refreshed on a regular basis anyway. It’s not like they can’t just lock the doors one day and tell everyone to send the iPads back or lose $800 on their last paycheck.

I was all hope and positivity too, but this place is done. MX supervisor, shop chiefs, and more than half the ATW mechanics all quit…this place is sinking. Get out while you can.
