Application window?
Please be gentle, 🤓
I've been to Alaska's website and I must be missing something because I can't seem to find a place to apply. Window closed? They just went to OBAP, so I'm assuming the window is open. Do I need a secret handshake to find out where to apply? Also, I went Virgins website and they have a link to apply. If I apply at VA is same as applying at Alaska? Thx |
Yes applying at virgin america will be the same as Alaska in the end. Currently they are still run as two seperate airlines. If you apply and get hired on at Virgin America, you will be a VX pilot flying an Airbus and be based in LAX, SFO, or NYC. Next year is when the seniority list integration will take place, where pilots from both companies will become one. No one knows what types of fences or restrictions there will be once it's out. But at some point you will be able to bid over to one of AS current bases if you choose to do so. I believe anyone hired after the Merger announcement date will fall in the new ISL based on date of hire. So if you really want Alaska, I would apply to both VX and AS and try to get on with whoever calls you

Thx for that info. Lax is my preferred base.

I would expect the Alaska window to open again this fall. The pool of pilots that will be placed in classes in the next few months will soon run dry meaning interviews will resume. Keep an eye on it and best of luck

Thx Ultimately Virgin and Alaska will be one company with one seniority list, so apply to both (right now just Virgin) and hope for the best. Keep an eye on this Alaska forum to find out when the Alaska window is open next time (easier than checking the Alaska website since we get an email before it's open to notify friends who want to apply). LAX bases are junior at both companies so wouldn't be a problem getting it right away or shortly after being hired. |

Alaska only opens their application window twice a year and it's the only time you can "update" your information. I put update in quotes because by update your information I mean re-apply. :( It's a pain.

The last time they opened the window, they told those of us who already had applications on file that there was no need to reapply - they were retaining our applications for further consideration. But that also meant we could not update, because there is no mechanism for that in Alaska's application process. There were some who went ahead and reapplied so that they could update, and a few of those ended up getting TBNT letters. Oops.

I would just reapply next time it opens. Their application system sucks.
I don't think there's a wrong way to go about applying. I would apply at every opportunity. |
[QUOTE=pete2800;2411052]Yeah... I got a "thanks for applying" email, then a "TBNT" email, then a "please disregard the TBNT" email, then I got an interview and got hired.
I don't think there's a wrong way to go about applying. I would apply at every opportunity.[/ I had a similar experience and agree with the advice to apply to each open window. |
anyone know when the next hiring window opens?

If the no college degree thing is true it is to keep people from leaving since they can't get hired at the big 3 without one. Hell, at United not only do you need a degree but a 3.0 GPA as well.

A degree is only preferred at United. But to be competitive you would need one.
Only people that I know that gotr calls with less had higher Graduate GPA that averaged out. |

Internal Chief Pilot email update. Yes mins are now 2,000 total fixed wing and high school diploma. Preference given to 1,000TPIC and college degree. For military it's 2,000 total or 1,200 in high performance military aircraft. For rotor wing guys, 50% of rotor time can count towards 1,000 hrs for the mins.
Window opens Nov 13-23rd, all hiring done by Alaska now. First joint Indoc in Seattle starts Jan 22, 2018. |

At every job fair what's his nuts gets up there and says don't expect a call unless you have higher than a 3.0 Undergrad GPA. So I guess that still counts as prefered.

In order to get hired without a degree you'll need significant aviation credentials, which in the civilian world means flight time. |
Anyone if they will be hiring into JFK?

I am as excited as anyone about lower minimums, but is there any indication that what is competitive is going to be any less? I have less than a 3.0 GPA but 4,000 plus hours and a significant amount of TPIC. Just curious if there is any word on the street. Thanks.

Make sure you apply for the place with growth, a future, sub par wages and sub par working rules, you don’t want to be working at Alaska when they do this to the industry because your union reps allowed this.
Fast track a merger, by allowing no negotiations to go to arbitration, your not union reps, your bought. Disgrace to the industry. Can’t figure out why there’s a pilot shortage. https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/a...iring-258.html |
anyone know when the job will be posted today?
|
Try and get on with Alaska? Or upgrade now at my regional carrier? Just looking for some career input, my goal is to work for Delta but I imagine things are better at Alaska than at my current regional.

Anyone know if the application window has been opened? I've been searching since last night and can't find anything. If anyone has the link, would you mind posting it here?
Thanks! AP |
