And, now onto a Red Tails vs Blue Tails vibe....
Could we get back to anything about any actual hiring news?

Last I heard was: 140 new hires this year, and interviews starting in June.
I haven't heard if classes are still currently running.

Any New Hope for those of us living in the Dark World of bottom feeders?

The big thing with Alaska is patience. They just aren't hiring the numbers others are so the process is slower. Showing them continued interest is certainly key as well. I applied for over 5 years, attended multiple job fairs, kept in regular contact with people I knew here and I finally broke though just this year. If you really want to work here, just keep at it and it will happen!

Oh, and ignore the nonsense that you HAVE to live in the PNW to be hired here. I live in the middle of the country and the 2 people I know here live outside the PNW as well. It definitely helps, but it isn't a deal breaker.

1/2 the people in my class were not from the PNW. The other half were from Horizon.

Thanks KK.

Went to NW in Puyallup.

I'm looking at that V@AD in the Seattle area...but, seriously? - the same day as the GAAC in ANC??

Was planning on the GAAC at the FedEx hanger in ANC...assuming I can finagle the day off. (Usually 2 days....this might work.)

See what I can do about OSH.

That pretty much matches what the BCP in ANC told me as well.

Thanks for the tips.

If you already talked with Craig you are on the right path. Keep finding ways to be seen by the hiring people and chief pilots. It took me a decade of applying but I am an outlier that way, it won't be that long (assuming that you have the standard prerequisites) if you are persistent. Pacific Northwest address doesn't hurt but it's not a disqualifier by any stretch. I like it here.

I'll keep on keeping on.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

And, if any of you will be at the GAAG in May, I'll see you there!

:)

We need more people with your attitude here. It’s not perfect, but if you live on the west coast, you should be happy here!

He will need that attitude to survive what hopefully will be the longest nastiest most contentious contract negotiations in Alaska Airlines history. Likely at least one failed TA and hostage taking by management. Like any fight worth fighting there will be casualties but the contract we ratify will be worth all the costs

Can we please just keep this thread a factual go to for people interested in the interview process?

Again, plenty of information on life at AS for those willing to do their due diligence. On other threads...

Please feel free anyone to PM me for my luke warm opinion, at best of life at AS.

Hot off the rumor Peres from the kool aid session. A system bid soon for September 1st, hiring much greater this fall than expected do to already past half way on the estimated attrition this year ( new hirers bailing faster and greater hours from planning then thought for next year. A window will be opening this summer for fall hiring.

I also heard about a new position bid coming out from a friend who’s still there. She told me a lot of new hires are actively looking to leave including herself. She has a job offer and is just waiting on a class date. That was me a year ago.
Alaska has a good pilot group and I miss flying with them but that place wasn’t my cup of tea. I’ve only read about Lorenzo but I have witnessed first hand Alaska’s management style and sadly, BM and BT aren’t too far from Lorenzo. They just smile as they flip you off and turn their backs. In regards to Alaska’s work rules, every regional in existence today have much better work rules and schedules. That says a lot.
Alaska is a good place to get a type rating and leave. I always regarded Alaska as a great place to work but that must’ve been well before my time. My friends there tell me that lines and trips are even worse now with complete inability to trade trips. Commuters as well as pilots who live in base seem to be beyond frustrated with their schedules.
No airline is perfect but I’m so glad I left. I’ve definitely found a place to park for life. All my friends who left Alaska for the big three, SWA, FedEx, and UPS say the same thing. It brings me no pleasure saying this but consider yourselves warned. Don’t miss out on seniority elsewhere like I did. Sadly, it is that bad at Alaska with no improvement in sight.

Well, unless the place you went ends up merging with Alaska then you made the wrong choice seniority wise... With the exception of the ones that left Alaska for Virgin and are now back at Alaska at a higher number.
