You are or you aren't? Pretty straight forward question. Someone pointed out you were just an AVgeek from airliners.net, which if true, makes your constant posting here all that much more strange. If you are a SW pilot, has no one told how the internet works? I can't for one second believe any SW pilot would hang on hypothetical nonsense, typed up by anonymous nobodies, and treat it as some sort of actual insider info.... but I understand the waterline in the talent pool is pretty low these days so maybe you're just special.

You sound extremely sure of yourself. Other than the overactive imaginations on here, what are your sources? Do you have actual information about a pending AS merger or are you just regurgitating the nonsense you read on pilot bi**h boards? And no, OTZ doesn't count as a credible source...

If you say it 3 times in the mirror it might come true. |

Trust me, few people (at least those of us who have worked for more than one airline) at WN are interested in a merger either. Ten year upgrade is plenty long enough without a merger adding numbers in front of us on the list.
Second, you know darn well how senior SWA FOs (like yourself) faired during the last “marriage”, but I’ll just refresh the memories of those reading: SWA was a stagnant airline with zero orders on the books in 2010. They bought another airline roughly a third of their size that had new B737s inbound. SWAPA (with the help of SWA) was able to “capture” 🙄 the captain seats of transitioning pilots and thus many senior SWA FOs got an upgrade much sooner as their upgrade at the time was based on retirements and not fleet growth as again, SWA had no orders on the books. I’m not advocating that Alaska pilots get treated the same way as the last red-headed stepchildren but to suggest that past mergers (Morris Air being another great example…..staple with pay protection) haven’t been a boost to SWA pilots’ relative seniority and “capture” of captain’s seats would be inaccurate. In the most recent example, it was all of the “acquired” captain’s seats with an average gain of 8% relative seniority for SWAPA pilots and average loss of 22% for the scum that were acquired. |
My assumption, Whack, is that lessons were learned by union negotiators and industry watchers, and the next integration would correct the errors. The scales would shift so that no group is so decisively benefitted at the expense of another (Which can only negatively effect me, so ... since all politics are local, I'm against.) Nobody is going to ask you or I, but I think a merger can only hurt FOs right now.

Fair enough, Zap. There’s probably much truth to that. I think those that were around to observe the last one are probably smart enough to take the next one to arbitration. Either way, I genuinely hope you get to fly with your favorite a$$**le soon [emoji6]

I do think its hysterical that OTZladner can claim he knows what the future holds, can drop hints on a public forum and it doesn't at all violate any NDAs or SEC insider trading violations.

But since we're all placing bets, I'm putting chips on a Sun Country merger. AS gets to needle DAL in MSP, they're small enough to digest and allows AS to maintain control while keeping potential takeovers at a distance, the 800 freighter conversions could fold into the prime cargo deal, Sun Country just pulled out of HA which could be some sort of pre-divestiture and last but not least.....it would throw our contract into an eventual arbitration decision. Disclaimer: I have no inside knowledge and this is just my opinion! Just in case there's a SYmidwest out there ;)

Did anyone else notice the airline press releases on masks? Every airline made a professional statement, just like a business should. Alaska had to throw in that we should be kind to one another during this difficult transitional time. A group hug over mask removal, how caring. |

Which is ironic, seeing as AS is the airline that put out a company wide email banning us from hugging each other in the terminal as it was a holdover from the VX days.

The only reason these merger rumors started is because Frontier announced a merger with Spirit, then jetBlue announced their interest in Spirit, and Alaska getting merged this year was a guaranteed outcome, because....?

Come on, Zap. You’re smarter and have far too much industry experience to believe this. First of all, upgrade is based on your relative seniority and not the number of pilots above you. It’s a percentage.
