In the coming 29 days…
Alaska Management has the opportunity to do the right thing to bring our pay up to industry standard in line with our peers (new pay rates at Delta, United and American) or we will officially be cemented as an industry bottom feeder. Over 40% of pilots hired at Alaska since the beginning of the year have already resigned to go elsewhere. This is a BIG opportunity for Management to make a statement to prospective and current Alaska pilots who are on the fence about committing their careers to the company. A letter has been sent from our MEC to management requesting that the pay disparity be rectified by Sept 1 (our scheduled pay bump date). If management does the right thing, I will be one of the first to recognize and support them. If not, I will do my best to guide the upcoming generation of pilots to companies that value them as professionals. Let’s see what happens.

Management won’t even offer the flight attendants anything worthy of their consideration, one can certainly argue different economic circumstances regarding pilot retention and attraction, but given their recent Q2 presentation and their emphasis on lowering costs it would seem unlikely they’d offer more than what they are contractually obligated too, not too mention it’s just not in their character to do so.
It would be nice though. |

in addition in one of the pilot calls in March or April SD said they allot 19 registrations a month which is what we are on par or just below - averaging. So the bean counters seem to have that one nailed. I’m sure there’s a number where it makes sense for them to snap us up early but that’s the reason I don’t believe we will get a early raise

Big 3 at $340? Alaska could offer $360 and it still isn’t gonna stop sub 3 yr guys from leaving. Who’s gonna wait 12 yrs for $360 at Alaska? The big 3 have widebodies and bases across the country. Alaska has 5 west coast bases and the 737 MAX the rest of your career. Pay isn’t going to fix this. It’s telling that the loudest ones asking for a snap up to the big 3 are those who have been here too long to leave and don’t have apps out, but want the prize price match.
Not to mention, a very slow crawl up the seniority list, stuck behind a very young pilot group. Newhires aren’t gonna stick around unless they really want to be here for their specific reasons (eg, based like PDX or ANC). |

We have no idea what the money threshold is to curb attrition. We don't know because it's never been tried at Alaska. What we do know that -10% is not working very well. -13% next year will work even worse. |
So we are going to grieve anything that happens unilaterally outside of the contract, but get up in arms when management won’t give us more pay outside of the contract?
