Quote: People are greedy and selfish. No way this gets done outside of arbitration. AS will argue solvency, HA will argue wide bodies. Arbitrators are smart, they will see the honest value we each brought. It will go down almost exact date of hire. HNL CA base will be fenced 4-5 years. In the end no one will be harmed. But many will carry on like children trying to protect their home turf. Very few AS pilots will head to the island bases, very few HA pilots will head to the mainland bases… it will all be a wash.
Yup.

Hopefully we can all do better than last time.

What happens if you have a CJO from Hawaiian Airlines during this merger ? Does it automatically mean you lose the CJO ?

I can't imagine why it would. If anything, it further solidifies your job.

Typically not. Both shops will be business as usual for many months as they begin to integrate.

Excited for the future and joining with our brothers and sisters at Alaska.

That said, OTZ salivating over a 787CA seat and theorizing that a fence will only be in HNL, and ONLY for 4-5 years is not helpful or productive for unity on either side.

The SLI will ultimately be decided by an arbitrator utilizing Alpa merger policy. In the meantime let’s focus on unity, not division.

Our focus should be on getting the best JCBA we can, as we both bring unique attributes to the table.

I think you misunderstood..

He didnt say 787CA fence will be up for ONLY 4-5yrs.... He is saying that a 4-5 year fence for ONLY the 787CA position will be in place (and none for the 787FO position).

Fences of 5 or so years around bigger equipment during a merger isn't a novel idea so I see nothing divisive about that very reasonable speculation.

Fences of 5 years for BOTH CA/FO seats isn’t a novel idea with a merger of similar fleet types for their respective largest aircraft like DAL/NWA and UAL/CAL. However, dissimilar fleet integration mergers such as NWA/REP resulted in 20 year fences as the REP pilots had no career expectations to ever fly a widebody aircraft.

Again, I think it’s unhelpful to both groups to discuss publicly about any potential fences. It will be decided by an arbitrator and we are much better served being unified and getting the best JCBA as possible.

Ahui Hou!

Can anyone explain what "fences" are?

If widebody CA positions are 'fenced' for 5 years, does that mean only Hawaiian pilots are allowed to be awarded into that position for the duration?

My main point was to point out that what you said he said, was not what he said.

Welcome to the fam!

Yes, that is exactly what it means.
