Default TYS Crew Base

Had a couple of questions about the TYS crew base:

Is it junior or senior? How long would it take to get based there?
How many lines/pilots are there?
How long to upgrade there?

Any insight is very appreciated. Thank you so much!

I am not trying to be rude, but Allegiant hasn’t hired in 14 months, so there is no junior base at this point. We need to hire, but management is refusing to do so. As soon as we do, there will lots of shuffling on the bottom of the list, because guys have been stuck in bases they don’t want to be in for over a year. Any answer that you are given about TYS seniority will not be true once hiring resumes.

There are currently 2 airplanes and roughly 12 crews there. Someone else will have to speak to the flying, but I assume that it is mostly 4 leg days involving Florida destinations. The most junior pilot in the system was just awarded at 38 months on property, but that number is climbing due to stagnation.

How can you need to hire when you are OVERSTAFFED?

Well, since we just had 22 FO vacancies go unfilled, I agree, we must be overstaffed.

Allegiant managements weak attempt to ‘gaslight’ us. Thinly veiled threat of furlough. Lame tried, true and unoriginal time-honored F&H management playbook attempt to intimidate the pilot group, because they know the grievances and law suits are going to go our way. Just like the wrongful termination Kinzer case they had to settle hush-hush-non-disclosure to the tune of multi-millions.

Exactly! How else can the company try to justify the case of Smartpref violations not being considered a "major dispute" in court? Say that we are overstaffed. That's all this is...typical company shenanigans and union busting. I don't live in Vegas, but I would bet a bunch of money that we will be hiring by the end of summer.

I agree with the above post that any information is likely to change when we start hiring again, especially if hiring is significant.

However, I wouldn't expect to upgrade in TYS anytime soon (as in a lot of years). There are 25 people system-wide that have TYS as their first choice for an upgrade and only 12 spots. Even if they doubled the size of the base it might not account for the people that have it first on the list (not to mention guys who may have it number two behind a harder base to get).

Unless something drastically changes, I would expect TYS to become and stay pretty senior.

March should be lean but there are still almost 80 in training. The Jan class is in sim and only some of the Dec class are done with ioe.

Remember, Allegiant is a reactive not proactive company. We’ve seen it many times. Until the **** hits the fan (and we all know it will eventually) and they can’t crew flights, we are considered over-staffed. Then they’ll play the victim card, subservice and try to blame the shortage on pilot sick calls and the like. They’ll hire like crazy to make up for the short fall (which will be too late) until the slow season and once again claim we are over-staffed. Wash, rinse, repeat...
