Any "Latest & Greatest" about Allegiant?
Looks like a pretty substantial ramp up with Allegiant utilizing 757-200s out of many west coast airports by November to Hawaii. Service being doubled out of Fresno as well due to strong demand. Any word on when hiring might resume?

We are short pilots in Florida and we are told that we are properly staffed in the West. There is also talk of a new type aircraft coming on property, so common sense would indicate that we should be hiring and upgrading this fall. But like usual management is tight lipped and they aren't telling us anything. If I were to guess I would think this fall there may be a class or two.
I know there is a pool as well, but not sure how many are in it, so not sure if interviews would be needed for any classes that may happen this fall.

Keep in mind the "growth" you see at Allegiant in terms of ASM's is almost all accounted
for by converting MD-80's from 150 to 166 seats and adding a handful of 220-seat 757's (most of which have already been trained for). So in terms of pilots needed it's basically stagnant right now with no hiring announced. There has also been, to put it diplomatically, a renewed management focus on keeping headcount as low as feasible.

It will be interesting to see how they will deal with having to replace their old MD-80s. A great airplane would have been Airtran's 717s mixed with MD-90s. Surprise, surprise, Delta is scooping up all of those aircraft. How will Allegiant change it's strategic plan? In the past if fuel shot up or a route did poorly they just parked planes. When you're making payments on a B-737 or A-320 that is no longer an option. At some point, they are going to have to do it, but it seems to me it's going to make them very vulnerable. The 757s are great planes, Boeing shouldn't have stopped making them, but they are getting old.

EasyJet has about 100 A319's they want to get rid of for the A320NEO's. There isn't much of a market for A319's right now with all the new generation 320's and 737's out there. So they may be able to pick them up cheap just as they did with the MD80's. In which case they will be able to continue to park planes if the route is no good.
