I would be a little wary of using those July numbers for planning purposes. There has been a shift in allocation of group 3 and 4 aircraft around the system. For example, up until October the LGA 767 fleet numbers had no change in staffing shown through 2018. All of a sudden, we are projected to lose 20 captains by May 2018. We will have gone from 85 captains to 60 by then.
And you would expect to look at the results of the last bids to forsee what is coming. Ummm, no. PHX gets around 15 more 757 captains that were not forecast in the bid process. More than what bid out.
That’s a small sample but I’m sure if you dig there are more discrepancies at other bases. Bottom line is, we really don’t have much in the way of reliable forecasts from the company. They put out memos one month and then change them the next. It’s a different world than many of us were used to. I’m adjusting but sometimes I just have to sit back and say ‘WTF’.
