Funny... just looking at that since I’m taking the family. But, for $600 you can just buy a confirmed ticket out of LAX or JFK. Worth it just not to stress about standby

I’m looking into a trip in the next few years involving a partial volunteer/vacation deal with elephants in Thailand. I spoke to an SWA FA that did a two week event where the first week was hands on with the animals, and the second week was touring Thailand. I’ve just started my research.

My wife and I did that in Chang Mai. You can get a cheap flight from Bangkok up there. We know about 6 or 7 different couples who have gone to the same place.

If you’re doing Phuket, it’s very simple via ZED. Fly into HKG and then you can ZED there via Cathay Dragon. If you starting in Bangkok I’m sure the flight there is just as easy. They treated us very well when we went and the flight was wide open. You’ll have to layover at the HKG hotel tho, as you’ll get there late and the Phuket flight is the following morning.

Is there a way to check loads on other carriers? If I’m flying across the world for a vacation that has stuff booked, makes sense to me to just spend a few hundred bucks and have a confirmed seat from Hong Kong and just allow an Extra day on the front end for a backup from the states. Don’t know, all our long haul traveling has all been Europe and can always just take a train to destination if loads go south. Thanks for the tips!
