Can you buy ZED fares in a foreign country?
I know you purchase ZED fares with your own airline (in my case the mainline I fly for, which is United.) Let's say due to poor planning on my part (I assumed I would be safe nonreving on United, but the loads became grossly overbooked), I didn't buy the ZED fare in the US before I departed. There is one other carrier that could bring me back to the US - NWA - I can cabin jumpseat on it, but the loads there are crazy too. So my only option is to fly a foreign carrier back to the US. Can I buy the ZED fare at the United counter in the foreign airport? I've called the United nonrev number and they had no idea, and they gave me the number for the ZED dept, but the ZED number was automated and told me to go to the ticket counter at the airport. I would ask the ticket counter directly, but there is only one flight to the US daily, so the ticket counter is not manned except for a brief period.
