Default AA did something really cool

Talked to a long time friend of mine last night. We were hired together at USAir in 1989. My friend's son followed in his Dad's footsteps and put in his time at the regionals. He interviewed at AA recently. AA HR called my friend and told him they were hiring his son and would he like to break the news to him? They also let my friend pin his son's wings on. Very classy. They'll be on different equipment (AB vs 737) for the immediate future so won't get to fly together but I'm sure it'll happen in the future. FYI, the son will get 737@LGA to start with. He's going to be one of the youngest pilots at AA, will be able to have a 35-40 year career.

That is pretty cool, good for them. I’ve seen some pilots as young as 24/25 get hired by legacies. Going to have really great careers ahead of them.

The head of pilot recruiting told me that this is a tradition that they have done for awhile, having a parent who is a pilot at AA, call their child to give them a job offer. He said that lately, since they are giving out a lot of CJO’s on the same day as interview, they aren’t able to keep the same tradition going unless the candidate ends up not getting a CJO the same day.

AA has its issues, but the interview/hiring process is pure class.

Agreed. From the moment you get to gsw, to the interview by the DC-3, the whole process is so relaxed, at least we do one thing right.

There was a guy in our class last week that had the same story. One of the few off the street non military guys. Don’t know if it’s the same people (the son got 190 and the dad was on the 80) but it was a great thing to see when he pinned his son.

And the guy who's mother was a Captain in CLT, recently retired and presented her son's wings to him during the dinner.
