AA to retire A-330 fleet immediately

----------------------

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, American Airlines operated a fleet of 24 Airbus A330s, including:
  • 15 A330-200s
  • Nine A330-300s
These were all former US Airways planes, as the A330 used to be the backbone of US Airways’ long haul fleet. In late March American revealed it would retire its entire A330-300 fleet, and the airline is now taking a step further — American Airlines will retire its A330-200 fleet effective immediately.

These planes were previously supposed to be stored for the next couple of years, but will now be retired altogether.

They are only about 6-8 years old I think.

I wonder if they can find a buyer for a P2F conversion

They need a longer nose wheel strut and a nose canoe to fit it.

Honestly, if these things don't go to the scrappers, I can see them converted to air refueling tankers first.

EFW's A330P2F doesn't need a longer nose strut.

the "Big 3" will largely be narrow-body companies soon.

No surprise, nobody seriously thought they were coming back. Not real worried until they start sending triples to the boneyard.

Only a matter of time before the legacies codeshare with the ME3.

It’ll happen within our careers. Guaranteed.

American Airlines with service from NYC to Milan (codeshare partner Emirates).

I thought American and Qatar are already code share partners.

EgyptAir has already converted some of their A330-200 pax into freighters. No nose gear structural mod necessary. There is also an A330-300 P2F kit out there. DHL already has some.
