Default AA or B6

Hey everyone!

quick question.

I have a mentee who lives about an hour from MCO. Currently he is a regional CA( not much for turbine PIC, ex military helo) with one of the wholly owned and has about a year till he flows.

He has asked me numerous times if he should wait for the flow or apply to B6.

Unfortunately I have been on MIL leave for the last 3 years so my info might be a little outdated.

what would you tell him?

TIA!

I'd pick an AA base and move there when flow happens. The amount of movement at AA alone will be phenomenal. Couple that with the variation in flying, ie NB, WB etc should make for an interesting and personally profitable career.

If they are willing to move I always say drive to work and hold out for AA. I did it at one of the worst QoL regionals and it actually wasn’t that bad. Plus they are getting huge bonuses like 100-150k over the next year where a big chunk of it is if they flow. Also have to consider is MCO junior or senior for B6 how long to hold. Like I said I would move to an AA base.

Currently he lives 3 hours drive from Miami intl and an hour drive to MCO.

Also we have heard MCO is very senior on the B6 side of things.

He could easily do long call reserve from his home with a MIA base at AA. Short call would be a stretch but we don’t have a set call out time no I know people who have done short call from as far away as Fort Meyers and Melbourne.

As a b6 guy. I’d wait for the flow and drive
to MIA. MCO is super senior and gets more and more senior every year.

MIA is a also a relatively junior base at AA also, personally if he’s willing to move I would get within 2 hours of MIA, preferably 30 minutes and you’ll feel like you’re barely working.

MIA is also one of the shortest times to WB FO if that matters...like everyone says, hopefully he gets 2 offers in hand and has to make a decision....its all going to be 1 list in about 10 years 😆 🤣

Going to JetBlue would probably get him/her higher on that list

It’s funny reading these AA/B6 merger speculations. For years it was UA/B6. I guess we’ve moved on from that one?
