JS/D2 while on TDY to keep the per diem clock running is considered stealing from the company $60 per day, no different than a $8 mini.
With on going negotiations management would love nothing more then a few section 21 hostages.
There’s no contractual requirement to ask permission to do whatever you want on a day off while TDY. No permission needed to jumpseat, buy a ticket on any airline, non-rev, take a train, rent a car, whatever. No requirement to submit a report to the company with an hour by hour account of your whereabouts. Company wants to turn on/off per diem? Ok, great! Not my job to track. This ain’t the military.
You’re “authorized” A12 passes, which are positive space in name only. You don’t have to use them. You just can’t use A1/A3 other than TDY start/end.
If the company wants to attempt to track people’s presence in a TDY base in an effort to save a couple hundred bucks in per diem, they’re more than welcome to do so. This is AA IT we’re talking about. Even IF someone got “audited” (they won’t), and even IF AA could prove that you “owed” a couple hundred bucks of overpaid per diem… who cares? Deduct the overpayment from the next paycheck. There’s no way you did anything “wrong”- it’s not your job to track your per diem while TDY. If the company wants you to do so, they can negotiate for that. In no way does this come close to company harassment/hostage taking. If you’re super paranoid, send a HISEND when you leave and return. Can almost guarantee scheduling/tracking will file that in the circular bin.
