Quote: New Hire training coming up soon. What are some considerations on bidding D vs I in training? QOL, reserve, lines, etc. Are there seat locks on D vs I just like there are for equipment transfers? Any thoughts from DFW based 737/A320 pilots are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
"I" tends to be a little more senior because it is a smaller status at bases with dual statuses.

D or I isn't base specific, Lasy year in Indoc I was awarded MIA/320/I, got LA and LT qualed, sat reserve for one month and then got awarded DFW/320/D. I can still fly International (over water) flights because I'm still current with the "I' designation. Although it hasn't happened yet. Essentially "I" can fly DFW to Cancun, Cayman Islands, Lima, Bogota, Puerto Rico (and varies islands) where D won't.

The main benefit of "D" is it's a much larger bid status than "I"

As for a new hire...it shouldn't be too much on your radar...Base and Equipment should be.

Quote: DFW/320/I is considered by many to be the worst bid status in the system for being screwed with by the company with CLT/320/I being a close second.
What do you mean by this? I’m gonna be A320 D in DFW come Oct and was considering switching to I next year.

Basically, the company has more options with you because you can do more, hence getting snagged for a trip or flying that a /D couldn't do.

The dynamics between the two are probably better asked on FB or The Line and I'm sure you'll get a variety of opinions.

It’s fine, go on over, you might get paid to sit out some LA and LT trips while you wait for your LA or LT qual. And if you sit reserve with no quals, that’s great too.
