Today, sitting at the gate before departure, I tired to load aapilots to access TTS. Instead of either the old site, the temp site, or something new, it loaded something that resembled ECS and a message that I couldn't access while flying. Checked with another device, same thing. I wasn't flying so double odd. Had a tab still open on second device from TTS so just refreshed, logged in and did what I intended to do.

Checked back at end of the day, back to loading the temp site.

The ECS Flying state starts 20 min before scheduled departure and end 5 mins after scheduled block in. This also applies to DHs which is a little frustrating since you would be riding in the back and could fix / adjust a hotel limo issue via text since you can't call inflight.

Yeah, also if you are delayed you are effectively locked put of ECS. It’s a stupid programming function.

I have been cancelled and sitting in a hotel lobby trying to get a hold of them because they failed to send the paperwork...and locked out of ECS because " I was flying".

I guess the new question is, going forward are we going to be locked out of aapilots because we are “flying” like I was (well wasn’t) or was it just a glitch?

It’s working as designed, it’s just that it’s a pi$$-poor design that doesn’t take into account the realities of our imperfect operation.

Really? I ve never been locked out of aapilots before... pretty sure I have accessed it in past while deadheading or within 20 min of departure. Or are you talking about ECS?

Right now - due to the IT SNAFU - if you try to visit aapilots.aa.com it redirects you to pilotecs.aa.com. That’s where all the hyperlinks are currently located that used to be on AAPilots.

Try to access that website while you are in the ‘Flying’ state. It will redirect you to a web-based version of ECS and will not allow you to do anything.

I can't try until tomorrow but doesn't the pilotECS site have a link on the bottom right to AA pilots?

Normally yes, but not while you are ‘Flying’.

I’m just relaying what happened when I tried it the other day on a trip. I guess it could have been user error but my recollection is that while I was within 20 min of departure, the redirect to pilotecs.aa.com made everything inaccessible.

That being said, you can use the standalone url to access TTS/DOTC during this time - which is what I ended up doing - you just can’t get there using the aapilots url.
