Hopefully that will be one aspect of any AA/U merger pointed out to the creditors and affected parties. AA and TWA pilots have little love for each other and U and AWA pilots are worse then the Isrealis and Palastinians. The resulting merged carrier would truly be a house of horrors, especially since the surviving entity would probably still say "American Airlines" and the APA, by virtue of its numbers would be the survivng union in control (I'd say half of the TWA STL base are non-members).

My guess, is the AWA guys would ally more with AA pilots and the APA and U pilots would embrace the TWA guys and plan a new jihad dissolving both USAPA and the AICA and forming the PPDA (Pi**ed-off Pilot Dudes of American) or possibly the WGTRYBOC, pronounced witter-boc (We're Going To Rip Your Balls Off Coalition).

From a Tulsa newspaper article:

Herbst said there's a big reason AMR's top leaders don't want to entertain a deal while still in bankruptcy. "If AMR does the merger during bankruptcy, it means a monumentally smaller payout to executives," he said.

AMR corporate greed at its finest.
