Default American's Flight Attendants Ratify Contract

IMO, a grossly substandard contract... and they are dreaming if they think that approving a TA will somehow magically create a merger.

Read the article

American Airlines flight attendants ratified a concessionary contract offer, sparing the group from the potential abrogation of their current labor pact by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge overseeing the restructuring of American parent AMR Corp., AMR.LN 0.00% the Association of Professional Flight Attendants said Sunday.

The flight attendants wound up their ratification voting on Sunday, with 59.5% voting for American's final offer, to 40.5% turning it down, the union said. Nearly 93% of the eligible voters cast ballots.

By accepting the offer, the 18,000 cabin-crew members will be in line for larger pay increases, an early-retirement option for senior attendants and 3% of the equity of the reorganized company. If they had turned down the offer, American was expected to ask the judge to throw out their current contract and allow the company to impose more draconian terms on the group, including working more hours per month and receiving smaller raises.
The APA is alone now in turning down a contract offer by AMR in BK. This has good and bad aspects.

Good: There will be pressure on BOTH sides to "get a deal done." And we are not going to vote yes on anything less than decent and respectable in all aspects.

Bad: The APA will be seen as spoiled whiners, halting or slowing AMR's reconstruction and reorganization.

What will be ignored is that all of the labor groups obviously had differing contracts, with ours being particularly repugnant.

AMR isn't legally required to come out of bankruptcy with new labor contracts in hand. But if it doesn't reach agreement with its pilots, the company may have trouble winning its creditors' support for any emergence plan and it would be more difficult for the company to raise funding in the future.
^^^ ding ding ding ding.

Fear is a powerful motivator...

Pliots have always been leaders, and this is just another opportunity to show the F/A's and other work groups how it should have been done.... Which adds yet another level of importance to this deal.

Their parasitic president gleefully reminded her constituency that their "me too" clause may get them even more as she's happy to flee to the safety of the sidelines and have others place themselves at risk in the hope of them putting more food on her plate.

Many areas of any future contract we get would not provide much benefit to this parasite such as scope, but anyhoo, it won't alter our objectives. If AMR chose to give them a "me too" clause in the hope it would either ensure their vote or be used as an excuse to refuse us a fair deal, that's their problem, not ours.

They got their vote, but I'm not relinquishing capital to pay for it. As it stands now, most pilots would flush the APFA and their interests down the toilet like the aftermath of a bad Mexican dinner.

Good for you guys. Here, we subsidize the non-union flight attendants. Every benefit we negotiate, the company must cost out for them, lest the union reappear its ugly head. Maddening.

It's unskilled labor. Enough said.

Well said. Friggin cat ranchers. But hey, they're still going to hold firm on this:

The flight attendants' union said in its statement on the vote that it "will now continue our strong and concise message that we have zero confidence in this management team."

Ooooooh, I'm sure AMR is quaking with fear.

Any "me too" crap is 100% detrimental to us. Management knows that any win by us, must then also be distributed to the APFA in some proportion.

Great job ladies. Enjoy your stay on the sidelines while we do the dirty work. I can't believe I called in sick during their strike.
