Some airports are down to one or two carriers due to these mergers. You can deny reality if you want, but the people who use our services are very angry and letting their elected officials know about it.

I'm not talking about the entire history, just the last 5-10 years. You might try reading the GAO report on the Airways merger. It is the first time the GAO studied what would happen to mid market airports and Hubs. Also doesn't help that when airline management sold these mergers to the politicians by promising there would be no cuts in capacity. Also might want to ask the airport managers that are dealing with one, two, or three airlines as compared to four or five. They're the ones screaming about anti competitive forces.

The people that use our services are very, very ticked off. That is a bad thing when you are in a business that is heavily controlled by the government and government regulators.

The profits are small relative to the invested capital. It's called "profit margin." The industry's is in the single digits. That alone is indicative of a highly competitive market (about the same as the fast food industry's.)

Your airport managers and customers of small sized markets may very well be "very, very ticked off." Their free ride that they grew accustomed to has been taken away. Understand this, however...it wasn't profitable to serve them in the manner they were used to. It was a waste of resources. It's simple economics.

Me thinks Texas being involved shoots your theory down.

AAMRQ down almost 20% today after yesterday's 45% fall. LCC down 4% already today.

According to anything you read from analysts and wall street, it is highly unlikely that the merger will be going through still and overall bad for the entire airline sector. The stocks are getting punished accordingly...and it's not just AAMRQ and LCC getting hit.

It is because this government meddling in private business is BAD for business. ALL business.

If you (not necessarily you skyline) voted for these "progressive" clowns, congratulations. I hope you're happy.

True, Republicans are also big government.

Honestly I think it's all corrupt (Democrats and Republicans). It's "them against us". By the time your politician gets into office he or she is bought and paid for, and they are not looking out for you and me...

DOH looking whole lot better Westies.

Every time I come here looking for some useful insight from my fellow pilots, one of these morons has to poke his head up out of the filth and lob an "idiot grenade". Go sit at the kids table.
