Let's not start talking what happens after the merger in 2 years. let first worry about getting it done. Just because we got a trial date in nov doesn't mean the doj can't walk all over us in court. All they have to prove is this merger is anti-competitive.
I don't know why everyone is so euphoric about the news yesterday, don't get me wrong i'm happy we got our trial date. But people act like we've already won this case and the trial is just a formality. It can still go south and it's still 50/50 as far as i'm concerned. |

Now is that a year after the POR, two years, three years after? I don't know. Wasn't speculated on. Will combined retirements reach that number in the near future? The rumor assumed that furloughs were on the way for US Air third listers. Is this what APA is now foreseeing? There are a combined total of 717 America/USAir mandatory retirements between now and the end of 2015. If they furlough another 1000 on top of that, there is a serious problem. |

Absolutely false. If any rumors are flying around, it's when the app window will open and how many they plan on hiring between now and next summer.
AA has been operating severel short handed for three years and counting. The only case I could see a RIF would be if they announced the entire Md80 fleet being parked. Heck even that would probably not require furloughs, that's how short we are. No clue where that rumor came from Stetson, but I'd put its validity at zero. |

in most business mergers (not airlines per se...), a reduction of employees is necessary due to overlapping / duplication of efforts across the new company.
NOW, how this will play out at AA/USAir is anyone's guess Run for the hills, it's the end of the world if this merger goes through..... |
Um, it's true. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard Doug at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Yep, thousands of furloughs due to the 12 (yes, I said 12) overlapping routes. Geeze, we must fly 150 flights a day on each of those routes...... Lots of duplication there.
Run for the hills, it's the end of the world if this merger goes through..... Good one, Andy. Talk about spreading FUD. There's no way there will be a reduction short of oil going to 300 dollars a barrel. There's too much flying to cover and the RJs are not going to be the ones doing it. |
Doug's plan is the create the largest airline in the world and then shrink it to profitability. Yeah, let's make it leaner and smaller. You fell for it OP, nicely done.

I laugh.
