Default Flight Ops Reduction Rumors

Rumor around the schoolhouse is that APA is already projecting reduction in force numbers that will come with the new American.
While i know this is a possiblity, this was the first I had heard of either pilot union "planning" on furloughed pilots.
Can anyone from the current American comment if this actually something APA is now formulating.

With all the retirements, a reduction in force doesn't necessarily mean furloughs, right?

They can't, per the MOU.

The RIF numbers pouring out through the rumors were around 1000.
Now is that a year after the POR, two years, three years after? I don't know. Wasn't speculated on.
Will combined retirements reach that number in the near future?
The rumor assumed that furloughs were on the way for US Air third listers.
Is this what APA is now foreseeing?

Why would we continue to hire if they're planning on furloughs? Why would American start hiring if there are going to be furloughs? Holes throughout this rumor.

I'm not sure which is the funniest or saddest, the RIF rumor or the idea that the MOU is going to protect us when Doug wants us gone.

in most business mergers (not airlines per se...), a reduction of employees is necessary due to overlapping / duplication of efforts across the new company.

NOW, how this will play out at AA/USAir is anyone's guess

I know a "no furlough" clause isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
