Texas pulls out of lawsuit/DOJ Denied delay

Greg Abbott has received enormous political backlash from his decision to join the DOJ lawsuit. Since he is running for governor, he is starting to crawfish. Because of his initial opposition, plus some twitter flubs he made, he is in damage control mode. He might not make it through the the GOP primary. I'm definitely not going to vote for him. I'm putting my support behind Tom Pauken who recognizes the importance of this merger to Texans.

I got this letter from the state of AZ today. This was a result of sending the petition online at newamerican.com. They are listening I guess. Hopefully AZ is next!

Dear Mr. XXXXXX,
Thank you for contacting me to share your views on the proposed merger of U.S. Airways and American Airlines. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
By some measures, the merger between U.S. Airways and American Airlines would create the largest airline in the world, offering more than 6,700 daily flights to 336 locations in 56 countries, with a projected $40 billion in Operating Revenue. Together, both companies currently employ over 100,000 people around the world, many of whom live and work here in the 9th Congressional District.
On August 13, 2013, the United States Department of Justice, along with Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne and others, filed a lawsuit seeking to block the merger, contending that it would result in less competition and higher prices. Critics of the lawsuit have argued that it is based on faulty assumptions and its protracted trial date, which is currently set for March 2014, would jeopardize the merger by prolonging business uncertainty.
I have joined with a number of my colleagues in the House of Representatives in sending a letter to the President of the United States to respectfully express my disagreement with the Justice Department and to ask that the Administration reconsider the lawsuit. The new airline will only increase competition in a highly competitive marketplace providing better options for consumers and employees alike. My commitment to Arizonans includes working to create jobs and economic opportunity, and I will keep your thoughtful views in mind as the merger moves forward.
