AA Alcohol Policy
 

Just curious what your current alcohol policy is for crewmembers? Rumor has it that AA does not allow any consumption of alcohol on layovers. Is that true?

Probably not a big deal since most pilots don't drink....

Probably not, but I occasionally like to have a beer or a glass of wine with dinner.

Responsible consumption OK, just know that on layover you are a representative of your company and behavior when drunk possibly could effect the public opinion of that company.
Free of the effects of alcohol for report time, and 8hrs minimum bottle to throttle.

For a long time, dry layovers was the rule at AA and NW--'70s, maybe early '80s.

That rule was carpet bombed nightly by the time I was hired at the end of the 80's.

Standard FAR drinking rule, 8 hours. FYI, by now we all know it's the blood alcohol level that can nail you even if drinking outside the 8.

A couple of our guys found that out the hard way with the Brits.

No jihad or secret monitoring of new hires. Just remember that bar cameras, credit card receipts and electronic hotel doors don't lie. Stay away from "freebies" off the jet also. Bar codes and lot numbers off minis probably don't either.

Pretty easy line to walk.

US Airways went on the same alcohol policy as AA starting today. 8 hours, bottle to throttle. BAC not above .02.

I have put so much time and effort into this career i wouldn't even use mouthwash.....
