DALLAS(AP) - The Allied Pilots Association is in negotiations with American Airlines negotiating the release of jailed APA President, Captatin Justin Principle and Vice President, First Officer Standin Strong. The two leaders of the American Airlines pilots’ union were jailed yesterday for failure to cave in tothe demands of the AAG management. “We refuse to play this ridiculous game any longer,” said Principle, through a statement by his lawyer, Rea Sonandfact. “Since the days of Crandall, our union’s history has been one of throwing in the towel. That ends today.” The pilots, both who were completing a sequence on a Boeing 767 aircraft were arrested yesterday afternoon on the tarmac at DFW. Both had come to the aid of a ground crew employee who was hit by a fuel truck. The employee, who suffered broken ribs, was transported the Presbyterian Hospital were he is listed in stable condition.
Dallas Police arrested Principle and Strong on charges of failure to concede to the low expectations of the union’s past lack of standards. “It is about time that the APA Board is willing to stand up for our pilots. Even if that means going to jail. I’m willing to do it,” said Strong, through statement released by his lawyer Doin Timesokday.
Sources familiar with the talks said today there would be extraordinary steps taken to rectify the weaknesses of the past, underscoring the urgency of management’s and labor’s future collaborative efforts for a successful, profitable airline.
