Non ETOPS to HNL

Any truth to the rumor AA flew a non-ETOPS A321 to HNL on the 31st? Error discovered after the CP, so they continued on to HNL and the aircraft had to be ferried back. May be bad ju ju or false rumor.

Is that route LAX-HNL a LAA (MOU/JCBA) protected route? Or can LUS pilots fly that route one day, too?

It's not protected but LUS doesn't have any ETOPS 321's so until we are interchanging equipment it will be LAA crews.

A good question might be how can you tell the difference between an ETOPS and non-ETOPS jet?

Second question - when would you first figure that out typical line ops?

It's true. However, just to be clear, the aircraft was an ETOPS equipped jet, it simply had not been signed off as such, so therefore was not legal to use for ETOPS.

C'mon, can't we all just get along. The AA and US pilots I mean, there's no hope for the East and West:) ***SARCASM ALERT***

Says ETOPS on the plane and log book.
