Crew Meals

Where are the guidelines about crew meals published? Do they differ from the ones that were initially published in the MTA?

LuckyNow 04-10-2016 11:16 AM

It's in the JCBA section 7-3.

Dumb question: Where can I find the JCBA? I looked on APA's and AAPilots' website and can't find it. :(

There is a link in the APA mobile app. Yeah, used to be in our elibrarian and on wings, I wish they'd put in mobile365.

I have a copy and I'm not even a member of the Union. You know, the organization that's ashamed to publish it for you on the open side of their website.

Route66 04-22-2016 03:57 AM

The Chief pilots office will be MORE THAN HAPPY to send you a .pdf copy if you would like. Or do you you need a "rep" to hold your hand when you call or visit?

Cheddar 04-22-2016 04:22 AM

Go to "quick links" on the APA member site, its under Contract QRH (it's the third one down in red). There's a bunch of links after that and the JCBA is one of them. You can save it to ibooks or any other pdf reader on the company iPad.

Sorry if APC's illustrious 'non-member' wasn't helpful.

That's it. Blame ME for APA's poorly written website. Btw the contract REQUIRES the COMPANY distribute the JCBA. Not the APA.

FWIW.

Nope, you're actually right.
-The website is horrible.
-C&R is a horrible forum (should be like APC [emoji6])
-Yes, you can find the contract through other sources.

Difference is I'm just trying to help a fellow pilot out without being a (insert condescending term for a bitter old fart here).

Now, wasn't that easy?

You mean like that d!kchead over in the profit sharing thread who posts a link about profit sharing the APA wrote about (they are afraid to post it because of their dependable information) I couldn't get because I'm not a member. What a way to "reach out" and be helpful there. A "real union man". FWIW I STILL get the profit sharing....WITHOUT THE UNION AND WITHOUT THEIR HELP.

The Chief pilot has it and will email it to you. That's GOOD, valid advice right there. Unless the "union" pilots here are BITTER YOUNG FARTS!!!! (I don't see where age comes into this topic but I'm game!)

Hope that helps.

I guess you could always join the association, and get information that's for association members. Or just ask your CP for the ps breakdown. Right?

Well since it is the Company that's giving me profit sharing outside the JCBA then I would assume that only the Company has the right to determine who gets what.....NOT the Association so why would I need that info anyway. Hey....I just answered my own "question". The CP always gives me what I want anyway. I have friends in high places.

Spend some time in the hospital... you'll never complain about airplane food again.

I like that lentil thing. Keep 'em coming!

Pacman 04-22-2016 04:11 PM

I hate the crew meals. I always get stuck with the pasta. Let's trade them for an extra 5 cents of per diem.

Are you trying to start an LTD discussion like on C and R? :D

I won't touch a crew meal ever, maybe it's just me. I live in base and pack food for the most part.

Slim11 04-23-2016 06:43 PM

I learned a long time ago that the reason all airline meals taste like chicken is that all airline meals ARE chicken. It doesn't matter what it looks like...it's chicken!

Wrong attitude....YOU NEVER GIVE ANYTHING UP. I don't care if it's profit sharing or crew meal. You NEVER GIVE IT AWAY....I would do it if they gave us $50.00 a day, above per diem, for food. Then I might consider giving up crew meals, might

Another person with the right idea,

I'm thankful to have them on the shuttle days and would never go back to living life like at the Regionals. You old windbags need a reality check.

Outsider looking in here . . . what's the crew meal requirement domestically and when would it kick in for a northeast shuttle type workday?

Specifically with the shuttle, you should always get breakfast on flights that are blocked to fly through 0730. Lunch and dinner (1130 and 1800 respectively) will be boarded if the ground time before or after is below the limits, which I guess would be 45 minutes in PHL. My guess is you're likely just to get breakfast doing the shuttle, but I could be wrong.

I have resorted to purchasing food or bringing food from home before long flights because the meals/first class food is incredibly unhealthy. Every now and then you'll get a salad but guess what that comes with ranch dressing (calories). I too also get stuck with the crap food. Most of the time it's pasta, loaded with cheese and carbs...yuck. The 'meat' is overly salted and is waaay overcooked.

I appreciate the thought but the food will need to improve dramatically for it to have any value in my mind. The worst part about all of this is that this is what they are feeding to our customers. If I bought a first class ticket and this is the food they gave me I would be ****ed. Off to Delta or Virgin.

The pretzel rolls are amazing though!!

I actually find the meals to be fairly healthy compared to anything I would find in a terminal. This was a pastrami sandwich... Of course if you want healthy skip the sandwich and eat the salad and fruit.

On the shuttle week I have coming up I am scheduled to get a few breakfasts and a few lunch/dinner options. It's all based on what time you depart I believe and there are Windows that determine what meal you get.

Ahmen brutha'

I just spent 5 days of narrowbody flying and only touched the salad on a couple of legs. Whatever the crap is they spray those meals to keep them shelf stable for a couple of days, my body starts telling me it would rather starve than eat that roach infested crap.

That being said, they try to short me on a contract item? The jet doesn't move until food is secured for the flight. $200/day is my starting trade point for crew meals, and I'm not moving much.

Do you guys get something different than us on the 190? We don't have a hot galley and get first class meals. I thought everyone was doing that now since they took away the boxed nastys

I don't think there's much to complain about with these meals. Reasonably healthy and fresh, and served on real plates with silverware. The 190 doesn't have any ovens, so hot meals aren't an option.

The rest of the domestic NB fleet does hot meals, not that I'm suggesting that they are any better than what you had in the pic.

They are not reasonably healthy at all. Processed meats, high sodium contents, chemicals on salads. I wouldn't serve them to any of my family members.

*IF* you get them, they are on the same level as your regular airport food.

For some reason, the company decided to discontinue crew meals on some Caribbean day turns (~ 8 hours flying, 10 + hours of duty time).

If you have an issue with the quality of crew meals, you should contact the CP office (key word: safety).

That's a long time with no food. People should pack food and bring it with them. Yes when I was a commuter it made it tougher but it's doable. Living in base now its ridiculously easy to pack enough healthy food for a three or four day. I just think it's sad that people don't treat their body better. On a typical three day I'll eat out once on the layover but that's about it.

Chemicals on the salad? If you are worried about the chemicals you better watch out for Dihydrogen monoxide. 100% of the people that ingest it will die!

Soylent Purple.

I think the takeaway from my seeing this a thousand times before on the internet is that I ingest too much internet

;)

Crew meals are usually of very good quality and taste pretty good. It's funny how some of you complain about crew meals and at the same time have no problem drinking water out of a bathroom sink right after you take a sh!t...

You couldn't do that on the 727. Before you could focus, the S/O would have eaten your sandwich. :p
