KIX food recommendations - Noodles & Gyoza
Maybe old news to some but I thought I'd give a thumbs up to a noodle shop I stumbled on. You have to be familiar w/ the "Hub Pub" (Brit style pub on the second floor) because my capability for directions is limited.
Go down the "main drag" out the back of the Swisshotel to the Hub Pub. Go past the Hub Pub and take the first street to the right immediately after the passing the entry to the stairway to the pub.
The shop is on the left not more than ~100 feet in from the main road almost directly across from a restaurant call "Bistro d'Anjou".
Excellent spicy noodle soup ("spicy miso taste") - a very large bowl is 750 yen and a half-liter of asahi beer is 500 yen.
While I'm at it, if you like gyoza there's a little shop that has a special on a dozen large, well cooked gyoza and a large draft beer for 920 yen. Very good stuff.
To get there, go out the back of the Swisshotel again but don’t cross the street as if you’re going to the Hub Pub. Instead, go to the right and keep the large cinema building with the huge "tv" screen to your left and head toward the starbucks across the street . Enter the "habitrail" just to the left of the starbucks. Follow that "street" straight through the first intersection and stop when the "roof" over the street ends. It's the second to the last shop on the right just before the "roof" ends.
They have picture menus with a picture of the plate of gyoza and beer along w/ the price. I've never tried anything else in the shop so I can't say much about the other types of food. Seems to be a favorite w/ the locals, though.

Thai in KIX
I found a decent Thai restaurant with a lunch buffet recommended by Lonely Planet. It's called Krungtep. Come out of Swissotel and head north up the habitrail alley; walk to the river but do not cross, instead turn right (you'll see the giant crab on the building) and go about 100yds, it'll be on your left. It's downstairs (1BF) and is marked only by a small sign. There is an empty lot under construction across from it. The buffet is Y1350 and includes a soda/juice.
