Default Atlas Local 2750 bylaws

The proposed bylaws for Local 2750 have been put out for comment until June 15th. I hope that my fellow Atlas crewmembers will take the time to scrutinize and comment on what changes you would like to see made. 2020 will be an important year for us all as we have the opportunity to shape this new Local into the type of Union that we want to be a part of, as well as vote on the type of leadership that we want to see in 2021.

You know it is a boring read, but this is really where we build the union we want. I'm actually glad it's up for comment/debate, and that it's up for comment and debate BEFORE we elect officials. Stuff like this keeps us legitimate.

I'm trying to learn about unions since I was never part of one. Local 2750 represents Atlas and Polar Air, and as far as I can tell thanks to google Southern is represented by Local 1224.
From an ignorant perspective, do both row in the same direction?. I'm thinking shared goals/strategies, good coordination, etc.
And wouldn't make more sense to be represented just by one Local? as a group.

There are no more Polar pilots anymore (well, there's a Chief Pilot, but that's just required to keep the certificate). Atlas and Polar flights are all operated by Atlas Air crew members. While the Atlas and Southern groups are currently represented by two different Locals, once the integrated seniority list is complete, all crewmembers will be represented by the same Local.

For the most part 2750 and 1224 pull in the same direction. There are some disagreements which sometimes spill over into the public domain, but, ultimately we all have shared goals and a shared fate. In the long term we will all be a single entity (save for a chief pilot to maintain the Polar certificate) with a single representative organization and a single contract, seniority list, etc.

Thank you to both of you for the explanation. So I assume there will also be a Southern chief pilot after all is figured out?. I'm assuming what happened with Polar and Atlas is the same thing is going to happen with Atlas and Southern, maybe is a different situation.
What is the benefit of operating under different certificates? I'm sure there's a good explanation.

As of right now, no. The plan is to merge the Atlas and Southern Air Operator Certificates (AOC), after which there will no longer be a "Southern Air" and therefore no Southern Air CP. Polar still exists as an AOC due to certain landing slots / rights in Asia which are tied to that AOC and would disappear if the Polar AOC were to go away.
