Atlas/Polar JS Info

Hey guys. Offline jumpseater trying to find some info for flight 961 CVG-ANC today. Any Atlas or Polar guys online to help me out? Just wanted to see if its on time and I'm still listed. My initials are T.S. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Fly good!

Whiplash6 02-19-2017 05:51 AM

It is currently on time and you are listed.

slightly OT.. but when you jumpseat on Atlas, or Kalitta for that matter, on a 747… are you actually sitting in the jumpseat itself or is there a "crew area" to sit in - I imagine both these companies tend to fly w/ multiple crews aboard (?)
Can you, if you want, sit upfront for a while or do they tend to have check airmen or company people sitting in the js on most flights?

Depends on the amount of operating crew members. If, for instance, you're jumpseating on the 74 and there's 4 pilots, then all the jumpseats are taken and you'd have to sit in the cabin. If there's a seat available then I'm sure the captain would encourage another set of eyes up front if you're so inclined.

ATLAS BWI Junpseat

Hi Huys I'm listed for flight 3536 tomorrow out of BWI as a OAL Jumpseater. I was wondering if anyone knew where to checkin at BWI for the flight.

Thanks
Jas

Not exactly correct! Jump seat passengers from any other company are not allowed in the cockpit. This is not to say that is doesn't happen!

I've never heard of that rule. Especially since the whole aircraft is considered 'the flight deck' for security purposes. Why do you think we have Jumpseat briefing cards for cockpit observer seats?

Did you not see the "This is not to say that is doesn't happen"! It is in the books, take a look.

Hey all, I'm looking on listing on an Atlas flight MIA-EZE on the 21st.

I've never jumpseated with you guys so I was just wondering what the protocol was. I submit the form and I'm listed and show up? Do I ride up with the crew or is there a seating area in the back? Should I bring you guys some chocolates and snacks?

Also, is there a way to find out where the plane is coming from? I would be initially commuting from ORD, maybe I can ride from ORD with you guys all the way to EZE?

Appreciate any help, thanks!

Aircraft is coming from Santiago.

You can meet the crew at the report point:
6640 NW 22nd St
Bldg 707

There are seats in the back. Crew of 3, so lots of extra room.

I'm not on the flight, but I personally don't think gifts are necessary, but I'm sure they will be appreciated.

Safe travels.

I will add, be there 1:45 before departure, crew should be there shortly afterward. IMO no gifts necessary. I have never gotten, or expected, any.

Enjoy the ride. Do not bring any food. I think that we are one of the best kept secrets in aviation.

WhipWhitaker 03-19-2018 09:26 PM

Allegiant has jumpseats.

Kidding obviously, enjoy the ride. Absolutely the best way to travel.

Hopping on the revived thread bandwagon here - any advice on jumpseating to China? I'm looking at going to CGO, PEK, or PVG in a few months and I've heard some horror stories regarding visas and having problems with customs. Is a regular travel visa okay? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys. :)

Hey guys,
I’m jumpseating out of MIA on 2688. I’m trying to figure out a meetup place, I know it’s somewhere at Western U. Any info would be really appreciated.
PM is ok.
Thanks.

Not sure about Atlas. But if you fly as part of crew you need crew visa for China.

Tourist visa may not work.

Might be better to jumpseat to HK and take a train to China. But again double check with jumpseat dept. at Giant.

Kalitta Air is currently flying ORD-ANC-China on all three of those routes. I just spent the last three weeks bouncing around on them. PVG has some "creative" passport, security and document ideas and I would avoid flying into or out of the PRC via that city. Every member of my crew had something confiscated by customs there that we have carried in our luggage around the world for years. On another flight passing through I got over two hours in the special customs area because they needed paperwork that according to our handler no other airport in China requires. They also make our loadmasters and mechanics leave the plane with the incoming crew and then wait in the terminal for the out bound crew (even if it is 5 or more hours) before allowing them to return to the aircraft.

Get a hold of K4 and see what kind of documents you need and give us a try. I love having the chance to offer some hospitality.

I am catching a ride this week from ORD to ANC. Could someone PM me the address of the warehouse and a possible POC? Thanks.

Atlas/Polar Anc js

Offline jumpseater looking for assistance on info for where to show in anc for flight 243 anc-cvg on the 15th, and any other pertinent info is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Twin Wasp 09-14-2018 03:27 PM

ANC Ops. 6200 Boeing Ave. Go west on Northern Lights, left turn on Boeing Ave. Almost immediately there will be a large parking area on the right. There is a building on the west edge of that parking area with a DHL and Atlas sign on it. Go in the door in the middle of that building, there will be a second door with a buzzer. Crew usually is there about an hour+45 prior to departure.

Pakagecheck 09-14-2018 03:32 PM

T W,
Huge Thanks!!! Much appreciated!

This is 100% FALSE and actually inconsistent with any published manual!

I was referring to not being able to jumpseat in the cockpit internationally... UPS, Delta, UAL, FedEx, etc. won't let you because "imaginary rule".

Cancelling JS

I'm looking at LAX-HNL-SYD on 7558 as a backup to the passenger airlines. I see that we need to list at least 24 hours in advance for international. If I list, and then cancel a few hours out, is that frowned upon?

TiredSoul 10-04-2018 04:23 AM

Not that I know of, we frequently depart with 1-2 jumpseaters missing.
Time & initial from dispatch and off we go.

When it comes to that kind of thing Atlas has the memory of a gold fish.

No, because the operating crew will then have more catering to eat.
