Quote: Well thanks for the serious responses guys. Must be a professional group of pilots over there.
I realize your post was well intentioned, but consider the “professionalism” of addressing a group of pilots who have been on the losing end of a bitter 5 year battle with management and are being paid far less than industry standard wages, and remarking about how the pay scale isn’t really a big deal for you because you’ve got other income streams. Not to mention the 5 year timeline you proposed, in regards to a company that is almost unrecognizable from what it was just 12 months ago. Seems like the replies you’ve received were in response to a lack of professionalism on your part.

Again, I realize you were just seeking information based on your personal circumstances. But realize where you fit into the picture before you start throwing around claims of unprofessionalism.

Quote: Would any recent interviewees/hirees mind posting a rough timeline from application to interview to hiring pool to class?

1. Start of Process - Submit Application

2. 1 month after Application (1 week after 2 internal recs were submitted) - Received Phone Screening, Scheduled interview during call

3. 1 month after Phone Screen - Interview

4. 1 week after interview - Successful interview email

5. Waiting on training dates. 3ish month wait for training is what was said during the company presentation.

Obviously ymmv. I think the internals definitely made a difference and am very thankful for them.

In the time that it took you to type up a snarky remark you could have checked Atlas’ minimum hiring requirements then consider what it would take to be competitive.
These days apparently that’s 3000 hrs PIC heavy jet

I see how my comment could have been misconstrued and I apologize for saying the pay was no big deal. The reason I said that was because I was aware that Atlas pays a lot less than industry average and I was trying to minimize the barrage of people I expected to tell me to go to another carrier because the pay was poor at Atlas compared to UPS or FedEx. So for that, I apologize, that was not intended as a dig at Atlas guys. One of the things that interests me most about Atlas is the international flying they do. That interests probably more than the pay. I thought Atlas might be an option to bypassing having to go the regional route which what’s why I asked what my chances might be. I know 5 years is a ways away but I’m optimistic things will return to normal by then.

To use an analogy, most baseball players don’t go from high school ball (CFI) to playing in the big leagues (Atlas) even if that team is as poor as the Milwaukee Brewers. Your rotor time does not equate to flying a heavy jet into Hong Kong in the weather at night after an already long day. Do not think your current experience is above flying for a regional (farm league) for a period of time.

100% this. Rotor time won’t get you to Atlas. And a 5 year timeline in this industry, during a time like this, makes even less sense asking about. Ask again at 49 and you might get an idea of what the current hiring environment is like.

Someone said flying is different based on domicile and equipment. What is it like for the 767 out of ONT?

When i was hired, the mins at Atlas were 4000 Fixed-Wing, and 1000 PIC Jet.
I started in the AF has a helo pilot, and was in Rucker class 86-02...

Good stuff, just an honest question to decipher the above. You went to pilot training fixed wing portion about 6 months then off to Ft Rucker for second half then off to qual. Were you flying for AFSOC (just a guess) and did you leave the AF as rotor only then hired by Atlas with no other fixed wing prior and no regional time? If so, then your telling us there’s a chance
