Atlas Initial Training

Can someone give some insight into the training schedule in MIA for the two months, how long is induc portion, 8 hour days? do we get uniforms and other allowances? Thanks for any incites!

EhV8R 02-27-2022 04:50 AM

Do you have a job offer and class date already? When you do, they also gave a class schedule ahead of time. But, for the short answer - expect about 8 hour days in the classroom. But all said and done, expect to be in MIA for 3 months, not two.

The pay structure recently changed for training. As I understand it, you now get min guarantee of 64 hours at $92 for all fleet types. Also, you get per diem which equates to a bit under 2k/ month.

You'll get first set of uniform for free, they do that during indoc week.
Not sure which fleet you are on, 747 training is 3, not 2 months.

95K minimum first year, well a bit less perhaps due to less per diem unless outbasing, etc. otherwise you can exceed that easily depending upon fleet type and if art 33 is still running rampant. Much more amiable than before, but could be better as can be said at any outfit.

Quick question , first year $92 I understand and what about second year is bump to $$$$$ ? Any one knows

Depends on your fleet. The pay scales on the APC profile are up to date.

So if I read right second year 747 $129, minimum 64 hrs guarantee

True, and that’s where the fleet type can bring more opportunities for higher pay beyond just hourly rates.

I saw the $129 an hour on 74, captain friend said working a bit extra on trips can easily bring that way up per month to 70-90 hours a month? I think overages kick in after certain hours? Someone already on property can probably answer better.

Guard 02-28-2022 06:13 AM

Can someone give some insight into what guys are using for head phones on the 74? Does company supply or do we buy our own? Thanks in advance!

I had a set similar to Bose A20s, but after 8+ hour flight they start to become uncomfortable. Some people use the ship set (telex) but personally I can’t clearly hear ATC which could become an issue in foreign countries. That being said I’ve seen a lot of guys with the A20s. I bought Bose pro flight 2s and they are fantastic. The company provides the telex on the aircraft and that’s about it.

You see a bit of everything but Ill say the pro flight 2 is perfect for the 747, been using it for many years, just bring batteries for your 17 hour legs.

Second year will be 133.11/hr for your guys, we will be DOS+1 by then.

Right now with our Covid pay, the money is there if you want it. ANC 747 FO bid package had lines with 196 hour guarantees. Whether the world is still upside down by the time you get on the line remains to be seen.

Hey Guys
I have been offered a start date on the 737.
I have been hearing and reading horror stories about the Atlas training department. ie high failure rates, no CBT, no formal ground school, no AQP.
I am getting nervous. Should I leave the regional I am at to risk it all with Atlas?
Is somebody able to lay out how pilot training works at Atlas? What to expect? How much preprep should I do? Do they seriously just give you a bunch of manuals and a hotel room that counts as ground school?
Thanks in advance

Risk it all sounds a bit dramatic

I don't know who you listen to or where do you read those stories...BUT that's a bunch of crap.

No AQP, that's true, but we do have CBTs, failure rates are not high at all. Systems, you're on your own, but there's some ground school and plenty of SIM, like a LOT.

People call it a big boy training program, and it's just that. Don't expect someone telling you what paragraphs to read and when to go to bed. But you have all the material and support you may need to succeed.

No need to get nervous. That won't help you. You need determination and commitment, and then you won't have any problem.

Plenty of manuals yes :D (FCTM FCOM 1&2 FOM and tons of good PDFs and presentations.

Are you an adult? Have you passed a training program in the past? Do you know how to fly a jet? If yes to the above, then there is no excuse you should fail any training program.

I highlight training issues here sometimes. If you made it through a regional training program, you'll find our environment is less structured and makes some assumptions. We arent particularly challenging, though. There are some differences fleet to fleet, but nothing I'd get wigged-out about.

Pilotchute 03-25-2022 02:33 PM

The problem will come when you get fresh ATP's with 1500 hours going to the 74. It will happen, they are working on in house ATP-CTP right now.

Now I am not saying fresh ATP holders aren't capable of sitting in the RHS of a 777 or 747 etc, but Atlas will have to drastically change the way their sim training is conducted to get these people through without a highecheckride failure rate or IOE wash out

Got my offer letter and all other information today confirming the 4/18 747 class date. Any advice on good stuff to bring down to MIA, I'm driving down a few days early so any rec's on fun places to stay before Sunday? I see tie first day that only time we will need jacket tie etc?

TiredSoul 03-28-2022 05:35 PM

I wore a suit to the oral and to the type ride.
I wasn’t the only one.
Fun places to stay?
Sure, you got your CBT’s finished?
:D

Congrats! Schedule shows myself passing thru MIA closer to the 13th next month and then again on the 18th as well. Truthfully that remains to be seen but I was just there for some training (new scenarios/fell out of the sky a few times, stacked 3 landings) a few days ago and it was typical comfortable Miami during this time of year.

All the normal stuff. Having access to a beater car is really nice.

They’re stealing tail gates in Miami like it’s going out of style.

“Beater Car” is the truth. Don’t risk anything in pristine condition or you care much about.

Swimming trunks, sandals...

Virginia Key, Crandon Park, South Beach.... If you have the time, drive down to Key West (4 hour drive). Everglades if you want to see a swamp lolz.

Meh, wait until you get to training. Focus on finishing the CBTs. There aren’t many that required as memory items, that’s due to all of the variants of -400Fs, BCFs, LCFs, and -8F that we fly.

Spend your time on CBTs, you can learn the few limitations you have to commit to memory and the immediate action items in one late night barbeque session at the Residence Inn.

Why tailgates? Just as decorations or for smuggling or what?

Supply chain issues, they carry a good premium on the black market. And they are quick and easy to steal, and have no stamped VIN or serial numbers.

They are often damaged in back up incidents or while trying to hook up a trailer. They also get beat up by contractors, yard and pool guys and such. They are not bolted on and are actually made to be easy to remove to make it possible to quickly access the beds. In essence they are the perfect part to steal and quickly flip.

My Sim partner lost his tailgate back in December while in training. Thinks it was at the training center during a late sim session.

Hotel Parking

Does the hotel charge $25 per night to park or is there a special long term rate?

Atlas pays for it, they’ll give you a permit.
