Good reply,

No harm intended, just thought that maybe you were like the regular Polaroids, that do nothing but Atlas bashing on the boards, it's out of my hands what management wants to do with the companies, I am just tired of all the constant fighting!

HA HA . . . no I'm not going to bash here. My only beef with Atlas are the guys that flew freight when they shouldn't have and your MEC going back on their word for a full support when we struck. I have NO tolerance for SCABS and NO tolerance for a union that let's them off the hook. But I can't do anything about that one so I don't waste any of my time trying to deal with it. I was on probation during the time and got fired then rehired. For that, I am grateful.

Back to the thread: As Springer has said it's not official but our D.O. said that ten should only be a start. They would like to hire thirty. However, I don't know what it depends on. Congrats to Jerry Springer . . . shoot me an email when you can.

What is the breakdown of the current fleet and do you get a PIC type?

No reason to ask me . . . you got the numbers right. :D

We'll see what happens this time next year.

Could you elaborate on the statement about next year. I have a chance to interview next week. Trying to gather more info about Polar. I can live with schedule, just need to know if I would have a job for awhile.

Read up at www.atlasair.com The CBA is under Investor Relations. Also, read up on the 20 yr DHL deal. Those provided my foundations for applying and accepting. How is it going to turn out? Ask in 20 yrs.

To anyone considering Polar you need to realize:

you will be on reserve for a long time
don't plan on making more than guarantee
don't plan on upgrading
there's a strong possibility of being furloughed, or STN based if the merger is completed

just my 2 cents

Some of this is true.

Who knows about upgrade. As we all know this is a fluid industry. Things can change. Bottom line is get a seniority number while you can and get it early in a hiring cycle.

You can definitely make more than guarantee. It all depends how you are scheduled. There are plenty of over guarantee lines on the 400. I have been over guarantee a few times this year on the Classic.

Strong possibility of being furloughed? Please explain. I could see that only if the merger would go through as ACMI and charter are a VERY fluid dynamic. Having said that, our CEO has stated that the ACMI fleet has been sold out for 2008 and 2009. Atlas was going to furlough until the Military stuff picked up at a time when it wasn't supposed to. Hence, they ended up hiring I think fifty. But I'll let the Atlas gang answer that one. Standstead base is a possibility but we are farrrrrrrr from going onto the merger. If you are Standstead based ask the Atlas gang about the LOA they just signed to get to and from Europe. I don't know that much about it but from what I understand at was a really good win for them (congrats).

Reserve lines at Polar are sometimes better than the regular lines. You have to have a block of 16 days on reserve and some of the hard lines are "scattered" with trips. Reserve days on can not be mixed with flying days. So no more of flying a day then sitting a day then flying . . . you get the idea. Oh yeah, when you sit reserve in the base they provide the hotel. The downside of that is no perdiem and they tax the hotel. But with the right tax guy/gal that can be taken care of at the end of the year.
