Atlas/Polar 767-300F

What's the story? I noticed a few 767-300 hits on the DHL CVG stuff Atlas flies and figured it was an error. However, there has been a "PAC" operating a 767-300 to BRU from CVG the past week or so. So now I don't think so. CAM had a 767-300 (364CM) sitting around for a while. Related?

What's the story and to be clear I know Atlas has PAX 767-300s in addition to the PW 767-200Fs, but the flight number is a DHL trip.

Thanks

Elusive Napkin 02-07-2013 03:42 PM

There are two new 763ERFs flying BRU and EMA right now from CVG. These two are eventually going to be flying out of NRT. My understanding is that the planes are on the Polar certificate because that's the cert that has Japanese route authority.

The planes aren't from CAM. They were initially to be operated by DHL themselves. They are brand spanking new and were sitting at EMA for a few months.

Whaledriver 02-07-2013 03:43 PM

They are the two -300ERF's that will soon be flying out of NRT. I guess that starts in March, so they're doing these Atlantic trips until then.

I figured these were the two Jakarta birds but I was just shocked to see them flying so soon after the announcement. Plus there was no news that I could find before posting about them joining in the DHL lift out of CVG.

One looks like it did MSP-TOL-CVG last week under the "GTI" numbers then.

What are their registrations? Those ones are nice rides if they are like the ones DHK has (winglets).

Thanks for the info.

ABX flew 365 to IAI for conversion on 02/05/13 and picked up 364 which was finished awhile ago and left in storage. The 2 DHL 300 aircraft ATLAS are flying CVG to BRU for now...and CVG to MIA from 02/05 to 02/28 for training. ABX flt 565 which was flying CVG-MCO-MIA is now stopping in MCO until ATLAS is finished training on the 28th. 365 has a potential lessor in China.

captainv 02-07-2013 04:45 PM

N643GT/N644GT

They should head to NRT soon. Besides CVG-BRU/CVG-EMA, the other one is supposed to do CVG-MIA, but got tagged to do MSP because - I hope you're sitting down for this - one of the PW200s had mechanical trouble.

NCR757dxr 02-07-2013 04:46 PM

Surprised ATI didn't do the flights since they got both aircraft to the states in 2012 along with 362 and 363. I guess it really doesn't matter in theory.

ATN364 SYD-HNL-ILN
ATN365 CMN-JAX-VQQ // ATN101 VQQ-ILN

I actually thought those two were these aircraft before I posted the topic.

Thanks for the update....

The number of people who are shocked of yet more AOG issues :D

Thanks for the info. Is there a reason for GTI in the states and PAC to Europe? I have some ideas but don't want to speculate.

Rhino12 02-07-2013 05:21 PM

I flew 644GT this week. First revenue flight after acceptance. They are brand new 763Fs. Hearing rumors we may keep the BRU and MIA flying in addition to NRT flying.

NCR757dxr 02-07-2013 05:30 PM

Do they have Winglets like the other DHK birds? Just did a Google search (slow night) and no pictures have crept onto the web yet.

flyboy8272 02-07-2013 07:26 PM

Yes they have winglets. Additionally, the wingspan is 166'11" = 10'10" wider than the -200s and regular -300s (seemed like you might like more technical information...) :)

Like I said.... slow night in paradise. Thanks for the info.

DHL would have to order more aircraft...... I think those are the last 2 from the original order? Also the bid pack and the flight schedule shows ABX flying CVG-MCO-MIA starting 03/01/13...not that thing don't change by the minute around here!

that makes sense. we're supposed to start NRT in March. we're still scrambling to staff the two new birds, anything beyond that would require lots more hiring.

BayBum4Ever 02-08-2013 08:41 AM

What are the arrangements for crew rest areas, lavs and galleys on the -200s,-300s and the new -300ERFs?

Just curious, I may just hold out until the 777s arrive.

I'm just sayin

the -200s and -300Fs have a row of jumpseats along the back wall of the cockpit. Haven't tried out the -300F yet, but in the -200s, if you curl up tight enough, you could theoretically fall asleep. you'd have more opportunity in the -300F, but the crew also gets to step over you on the way to/from the lav, which is right next to the jumpseats. i think the -300F seats are fold-down seats, i remember the -200 seats being a little more substantial. -300F also has a very small space for a galley. doesn't hold our normal complement of catering. solutions are being developed.

-200s have a stinky honey pot lav, but at least it's not in the flight deck. the "galley" is a couple of locking containers above where you stow your luggage.

the -300ERs have business class seats. two birds have it in the center aisle, just forward of the aft galley. deploy the curtains to block out the light and you could freeze meat. seats don't lie flat, but the arm rests are magnets for every passing pax/FA/galley cart. the other pax bird has two seats up in the first class section. you get hot meals, after the FAs have done their service. plan on fruit/sandwich tray until a couple hours into cruise, at least. You have to call back to have someone block the doors every time you need to go pee or need something brought up.

744driver 02-08-2013 01:15 PM

Just flew the CVG - MIA and back on N644GT last night...flies beautifully, new, and yes it actually has the new-car smell!!

Unfortunately, no bunk, no lay-back seat, and kind of a cramped place for long-haul flying...but the airplane flies amazingly well. After all, it had less than 100 hours on it!!

Flying a new airplane is enough to make you want to bid the LAX base we are starting next month (maybe!!) and do only the DHL Asia flying ex NRT...especially after the flying simulator (767-200F) I flew on the outbound from CVG last night:mad:

Did you hear something about us getting 777's? I haven't heard that one.

Whaledriver 02-12-2013 09:08 AM

JC, VP of Ops, has been quoted as saying there will be 777's at Atlas within 18 months.

744driver 02-12-2013 12:00 PM

I can put off my return to the 744 for three years if we get to fly the 777 :D

I can hear you now - "on the -400, we did it this way. And on the 767, we..." :D

DC8DRIVER 02-12-2013 03:06 PM

According to another aviation forum, the two new Altas 76-300ERF's were briefly registered as GDHLJ and GDHLK with DHK in England.

Wow, I guess I'm out of the loop! Not a bad thing as I'm comming off a 3 week break.

NCR757dxr 02-12-2013 07:29 PM

I had heard a rumor of 777s @ ATSG within 2 years back in March 2012. Now that Atlas is the latest DHL obsession, I could see the 777s going to Atlas instead without a second thought. Especially if AAWW takes over Southern Air.

captainv 02-13-2013 03:53 AM

If the rumors are true, it has nothing to do with DHL, ATSG or SA.

Hete has been talking about 777's for 10 years....

Agreed....

Little known factoid Boeing still has a line going for 767's at the back of their Everett plant. They don't mention it on the tour that I've done twice! I think they produce 2 a month.

Well how else would they be filling their 767 backorders? :p

Not that little....FDX supposedly ordered some...UPS bought 25 and took delivery in the last couple years...DHL has recently received a couple new ones...put money on the table and I bet you could get a new one too! :D

Hmmm . . ok, I've heard this from different folks. So here's the million dollar question: When did the 18 month clock start? Also, when the 76 program spooled up the books were on some desks over a year before they officially were announced. Anyone seen any 777 books lying around?

I hope I have to eat my words but need more proof than an upper management guy saying something. After all, we're supposed to get breakfast in the hotels, right? :D

I saw it with my own eyes....J.B. is sitting in a cold dark secret project office going through 777 manuals. I hear that B.W. is creating a bid package as we speak.

B.W. Is one of our pilots that put out a fake bid packet years before the 76 was on the property. We had crews faxing their fake bids to the chief pilot. I was poking fun at that and saw the poster was a fellow Polar crew and would get the inside joke... I guess my sarcasm didn't come across that well.

Nope! I got the joke. You brought back some good memories as that was hilarious seeing those forms on the jet and watching people fill them out. And no, I didn't fill one out but I will be making . . uh I mean sending . . uh I mean filling the 777 LAX bid as number one choice. :D

Cheers!

That line is probaly for the FedEx orders and we just upped the ante by 33 more aircraft. The line will be going for a while. We did defer 2 777's a year so someone may get those.

It's also there for the new USAF/NATO tanker program.

IIRC ... wasn't the FedEx 767 deal to fill the production gap between the end of the orders and the tanker production?
