I figured Rickenbacker because Amazon has 2 huge facilities in the Columbus area. 1 is right next to the airport.

I suppose only they know what they are planning on doing.

DHL still serves TOL as en enroute stop on the way to, I think, MSP. But as a major sort facility, TOL falls a bit short compared with what's available. At its peak, perhaps 40 or so aircraft could be handled at one time, and that was a stretch. The sort facility isn't as big as, say, DAY, and there is only a Cat I ILS available, with single runway ops (and some lousy winter weather).

BAX operated in a similar manner as DHL as far as using multiple contract carriers, and apparently, Amazon seems to be headed that way as well. At one time, ATI was groomed to be the major provider for BAX, but that got nipped in the bud after we unionized. There were so many tail colors on the ramp for a while, it was like a plane-spotter's dream. Then it dwindled down to mostly ATI and CCIA, along with a few others like CanJet, Murray, etc.

The Amazon news is surprising on many fronts. Our union has demanded mediation, voted overwhelmingly to strike, and become more organized and more unified than any pilot group Ive been a part of, and this is all BEFORE our CBA has officially ended. The momentum being built right now will be used as the tip of a mighty sword backed by a big grenade the second the CBA expires. I can't believe that the business folks of Amazon would want any of this mess. I wonder what lies were told to them by our management?

Airline CBA's neither end or expire, they merely become amendable.

Strike votes don't mean sheeat and mediation is a God**** joke... The CBA is the CBA until something else gets voted in.

Followed by years of negotiations once a contract ends. Then mediation, a cooling off, attempt to strike, forced back to work. Its a long process before you ever get to strike.

It's not near the size of KILN, plus not CAT 2 or 3

Expat above has nailed it I think. Everyone was getting gitty over this at ATI that Amazon was going internal. Now the realization is setting in this is no more than another ACMI contract. It's the same deal over and over again. All goes to the lowest bidder. Bringing everyone together under the same house is about he only way to prevent the whipsaw.
