Default Logbook Columns

I recently filled up my old Cessna Pilot Center logbook and purchased a new ASA SP-6. My old logbook had a column for "Flight Training Device" time, whereas the SP-6 has a column named "Simulator." Could I simply lump together all FTD, PCATD, full-motion, etc. time I've amounted thus far (and that which I will acquire in the future) in the "Simulator" category, or would I have to break it down into more specific sections to be legal? Any "gotchas" I should know about?
Thanks.

It's possible you might want to separate FTD from actual simulators. If you have all of your ratings it probably doesn't matter, but if you apply for a instructor job someday they might want to see your actual sim time vs. FTD.

I gotta go with Rick. From an FAA hours logged standpoint, it doesn't make much difference. But if you think you'll have a use to separate them, go ahead.

Better yet, this is exactly the kind of things e-Logs are made for – queries that go beyond the traditional columns.

The only real "gotcha" in this area is some of the "sub-FTD" (my term, not the FAA's) devices that are not really considered simulators or FTDs - like the PCATD - that technically don't count as even sim/FTD time. But not too many people worry about that.

Yeah, I wouldn't log PCATD unless it's certified for aeronautical experience towards a rating. even then I would give it it's own column...otherwise some interviewer will accuse you of trying to log MS Flight Sim.

Thanks for the replies. Back during my PPL training, my CFI logged 0.6 PCATD in my logbook (not towards TT), but all the rest of my "Simulator" time has been in FTDs. The only simulator time I can see logging from here on out will be in FTDs (FRASCAs) and full-motion/airline sims (from internships and, hopefully, employment). So, I take it that it wouldn't be that big a deal if I lump FTD and other (Level C, D, etc.) simulators together in the same column as long as I can go back through my books before an interview and be able to separate out FTD from sim?

Personally, I would only log sim/FTD time to show currency and a reminder of when you did your last Pro Check/checkride. As long as you don't log it as total time. In the big scheme, I would not worry about separating FTD from sim time.
