Log SIC time in a single-pilot Cessna CJ?
Hey I'm a newly certificated Single and multi engine commercial pilot with CFI and MEI certificates also. I was recently asked to fly right seat in a CJ with an appropriately rated pilot. It only requires one pilot whom is type rated, which he is. I have been doing checklists and radios with him and he occasionally lets me take the controls. Is there Any way I can log either PIC or SIC time for that time when I have the controls even if I'm NOT type rated in it? The operations are being conducted under part 91.

Logging SIC time
Definitely not SIC and unless he's an instructor signing your log, not PIC either.

Does the captain have his ATP? I think there was a provision for an ATP rated pilot to give you the required training in the airplane for you to qualify as a type rated SIC.

I think he might have something here...read FAR 61.55 (b) (1) (2) it's for obtaining an "sic only" privileges in a jet without having to go through a sim training center. Basically the ATP rated captain gives you 3 hours of flight time in which you learn procedures, systems and other stuff, log some landing and approaches...get that written and signed by him...go to a FSDO and get your 8710 processed by them or pay a DPE his fee then you're set to be sic part 91 for that aircraft. I don't know if the cj requires two pilots though...if it's certified for one I don't think it'll work; but don't take my word for it. It's a great way to get some knowledge, fly jet time, make contacts (could lead to more SIC's) and maybe start contracting, hell it may lead to a job... |
Reading the following letters, you can't log it. Also, I believe the the ATP provision only applies to instruction under an air carrier's approved training program.

Just write it in your logbook with an asterisk or something next to it so you won't accidentally add it to your totals and count it as experience. It's just something to talk about in an interview saying you have more experience than all flight instructing time.
