Good Lord, timebuilding has gotten dangerous!

Lots of good information here about the legality of carrying a gun. If you're aspiring for an airline career, I tend to side with those who suggest not carrying one. Call it an abundance of caution.

If you really feel the need for protection, what about pepper spray? I don't know if this is a viable solution or not; it probably has its own variety of issues. (ie using it in a flight deck would probably affect everybody on board)

I can think of only two times in my aviation career when carrying a firearm would have made me more comfortable. The first was while getting fuel at the Daget/Barstow airport around midnight while a pack of coyotes rustled just outside the ring of light cast by the fuel pump floodlight. The second was on TDY in Atlanta. Ultimately, I was unmolested on both accounts ;)

Just don't land in Modesto and you won't have to use your gun.

You can carry on you in a private plane. Doesn't matter if your license or not. However, your problem maybe, between your plane and your car. now you're in public and if you're not licensed and get stopped, that maybe an issue, just depends how nice the cop is.

I've landed there a few times. I been in worse places, like atwater.

Atwater. Oooff. I spent seven months there just before the start of my aviation life.

My first future ex-wife found her second future ex-husband there...
