Heck, if you can solve the p=np or p!=np math problem, the problem standing between computer decision making, the King of Denmark will pay you $1M. No joke.
Real threat is losing one seat. That’s not that hard. Hmmmm, Capt takes off and has a heart attack, only need one FA with landing currency if the computer craps out as well. Just spitballing, but that was too easy. |

I think some of the preliminary thinking has remote flight as another option for backup in single pilot settings (autopilot + single pilot w backup to ground flying if both bail out). Military already doing this in some cases - going to be a while though in civ side. Going to be a while no matter what, maybe something for next generation to worry about. |

And there lies the rub unless you’re about to retire. No one here would would solve that problem for a mere $1M when it could be sold for far more, especially putting your own job on the line. Granted, not really worried about anyone here solving anything. Least amount of threat I’ve seen to date. Now that’s good stuff and should give us a warm fuzzy, you gotta admit.

And then we have the loss rate for unmanned aerial vehicles, which are still remotely piloted. Pick your reference, but at least 5x. And what hardware is Airbus and Boeing actually talking about building for customers that have these magical single pilot/zero pilot cockpits? In short, there is nothing remotely close to coming down the production line, and what does get spit out between now and then will have a service life of 30+ years. Finally look how hard it is get to get a decent FMS update into service. The two pilot cockpit is going to be with us for decades to come. Many decades. |
It is coming
SP bizjet insurance only got stupid expensive starting in 2019 due to losses; prior to that it really wasn’t cost prohibitive.
That said, <$10M hull and <$50M liability is a LOT different risk than a large cabin bizjet let alone narrowbody or larger. Agree that dual-pilot transports will be around for decades to come. |
Actually agree with you all that it will be decades upon decades for dual pilots to disappear. Single pilot maybe a couple decades at best. Just go search for over a year old data points on the 797. Airlines asked for it, Boeing has it as 2 seats, saw the schematic a few pages down from a friend with the one seat variant. It’s like the 529 fund for your kids. Never thought it could ever be taxed, but it was tabled for taxation but shot down. We all knew it would, it’s just the matter that they even tabled the idea that should raise an eyebrow.
Personally don’t care, but nature, the irs and Boeing will find away but not in my remaining 10+ I believe and probably what ever years you project. Been wrong before and I probably can say no one saw these pax loads coming ever in their lifetime either as everyone initially said this cannot compare to 9/11. They were all right in reverse. Just saying, that’s all... not an argument just how life works things out. Your all right, we had Navs/Engineers for years so it will be awhile on this one so that is a good sign. Thx Max/Virus, this is stupid stuff this past year or so. Dismal. |
It took about 20 years for them to get ADS-B going....

*Long Haul could have 2 Lie Flat Lounge Chairs and Heavy Crews could vanish. Honestly, I hope nothing like this ever happens as I would decline to travel like many. Good thing I will have that bug beaten out of me by then. Good times for now. |
