Questions on Paint Shop
Hey, My name is Josh I'm 23 years old I work for my dad painting planes, for about 6 years now. We painted full paint jobs before using the owners hangars, for half the price most shops would charge. The owners are very pleased with the work we have done but we mostly stick to small repairs because we do not own our own hangar. Id like to take my dads small business and make it a known shop. I'm stuck on not having the place to paint the planes but we have the customers. Any suggestions?

That's a unique business model as paint shops go, especially given the lack of flow-through ventilation, filtration, etc, as well as stripping and disposal facilities and hazmat issues. I'm surprised that you're able to paint in owner hangars, given the restrictions that many places h ave on the potential to drift into adjacent hangars, environmental concerns, etc.
I'd look for a facility. The customers will come to you. It doesn't need to be at a large airport. Look for facilities at smaller or more remote fields; people will come to get their work done if you have the reputation.
Be careful going too cut-rate. Larger shops charge what they do for a reason, and it's not just because they can get away with it. Among other things, their costs are higher because they have and maintain facilities.

Thanx for the reply, Ya i been keeping an eye out for small airports even couple hrs away from where i live. Ya i understand why they charge so much i'm pretty sure if i get a good shop going ill have to raise prices as well. But so far things been going good with what we do. I really enjoy what i do which is why i stick to it even when work gets slow sometimes.
