Default Regional or Cargo to make it to legacy

Currently flying in South America for a small regional carrier. Have enough hours to apply with US regionals and meet all requirements.

Thinking about going back to the States with the goal of making it to one of the big ones eventually and have a career there.

Now, there is a possibility for a job with one of the better cargo airlines in South America with MIA base flying B767 and a nice salary.

Question is: if the final goal is getting hired by a US major, I'm I better off staring with the US regionals? Or, flying for a foreign cargo airline would also help me make it to one eventually?

Any opinions or advice? What would you do?

Which one will you be able to upgrade at first and get that valueable turbine PIC time?

Definitely with the regional option. The guys I know at the cargo company have been FOs for 5+ years.

You might like cargo so much that you'll want nothing to do with pax?
That's what happened to me. To each their own.

I'd think that the heavy 767 time would be more valuable for getting to a legacy. The magical 1000 TPIC doesn't seem to be quite as important anymore. Lots of FOs from my regional have been called up to the big leagues without it.

I'd go fly the 767 for a couple of years ,make some good $$ and apply to the legacies in a year or two.Tpic time isn't the end all to get to the majors.
Screw the regionals.
