Interview Credit Check

I tried searching for the information but the word "credit" pings so many posts. Do any of the majors or LCC's do a credit check as part of the interview? Mine is okay (good enough to buy a house) but I wouldn't call it amazing. Thanks!

No I haven't heard of anyone checking but I haven't been able to confirm this, it should work both ways if they do. I turned down a legacy slightly because of their bankruptcy history.

Some of them do a credit check, but they are looking for major red flags, not perfect credit.

I would think that a credit check would be more like an indentity verification.

They probably don't care about your score, they might just want to see that you have one.

This is why I dislike part of Dave Ramsey's advice. He tells people to never use credit at all. After a few years of doing that, your score will be zero, or what they call a "thin folder." Many potential employers will see that as a HUGE red flag that something like identity theft could be going on. They may investigate further to find out what's going on-and ask why you have no credit score, but I bet they would just move on to the next guy and you would never get an interview.

I like a good bit of Daves advice, but that strategy is stupid and harmful.

Credit score won't be zero if you've ever had any sort of credit, but it will be a very thin file and you'll pay a lot more for your insurance etc.
What a stupid advice.

I try to use as much credit as ever possible, makes life a lot easier/cheaper.

My friend told me about a guy he knew who maxed out all of his credit cards in a year to pay for accelerated training and then declared bankruptcy.

He could not get hired by a major for a while because of that.

I'm in favor of debtor's prison. It would be filled with lots of pilots.
