Default Level D SIM time

So after getting out of flying for 10+ years, I'm considering making another go at it. I'm sitting at just below 400 hours, so I need to build my hours. I saw an ad from flight safety for a SIC SIM position. How much level D SIM time can be used towards an ATP? Any chance of meeting someone through the training to get a corporate gig or would I be better trying to land a pipeline/picomertry position to build hours?

Thanks

Good opportunity! Since you are getting back in, you should refresh your memory of 14 CFR Part 61, Section 61.159. This will help answer your question.

Sim time is never flight time, so the time you are working as a seat filler in a level D sim can not be used towards the flight time requirement.

However, the level D sim time can be used for currency, i.e., landings, instrument, etc...along with the training time towards your type rating if they decide to type you at 400 hours.

Currency time must always be logged that way, and again, even though you may be getting current for landings, instruments, etc., it is again not flight time.

Better off finding flying time.

Just my two cents.
