Does a busted check ride screw a career

I've been fortunate to have had a good Part 91 job for the last 8 years but now I'm shopping around for a career move. Several times I have had a 135 flight operation hot and heavy to hire me but as soon as I fill our the forms and answer the question about failing a federal check ride I never hear back from them...like I fell off the edge of the earth.

I failed my initial ATP ride in a simulator during my first type rating at Flight Safety 8 years ago. After a two hour review I retook the sim ride again and passed.

Is this the reason they're dropping me, and if so will it haunt me forever?

Only one FAA checkride and or oral failure? A regional will take you and do will part 121 majors provided you’re competitive otherwise.

A single bust should not stop you from most majors or all regionals. I wouldn't think most 135 ops can be that picky these days.

I know a guy with 6 checkride failures who just got picked up by a regional.

A failed ATP check ride that you weren't able to correct for an ENTIRE TWO HOURS?

Naw, couldn't be that. Perhaps a different underarm deodorant...?

Just curious, what forms are you filling out?

I never filled out any forms except W-2 and health insurance(back when it used to be good insurance) and flight times for the plane insurance.

Their application forms ask about failed federal check rides. And of course they're submitting the PRIA forms so they will see the failed check-ride there. It's better that I'm honest on their application and tell them about the busted check-ride then have to explain the discrepancy later.

6?!?!? Wow, what regional picked him up, so I know not to fly them?

One of the ones considered top tier today. Think Endeavor/RAH/AA WO, not Mesa. He will be mainline one day. Great pilot too.

Great pilots don’t bust 6 FAA checks. In 40 years of flying, I don’t know anyone with that kind of record, even in the military where busts are more common. Before you ask, I seen hundreds of resumes and Flight Evaluation Folders, done ASEV visits, chaired or convened two FEBs.
