Would there be a risk of the ATP "good moral character " requirement being an issue for a 121 gig? A firearm charge and what I assume is some kind of abuse of an inmate under your care charge? Might be worth speaking to an aviation lawyer before dumping too much money into the career.

I'm no expert and I'm not judging. Just thinking out loud.

Has anyone ever heard of anyone not getting an ATP because of the "good moral character" requirement?
Honest question.

A friend of mine has a felony and he got his ATP. When he got convicted, he did lose his medical for awhile and had to jump through some hoops to get it back with no restrictions.

I have heard of revocations, usually for being busted pencil whipping or similar. New applicants, not so much. Like I said, was just thinking out loud as the charges on his record sound worse than the probably are when written down and you know how the FAA like to act sometimes.

For practical purposes good moral character gets filtered when you renew your medical. If you have convictions, that will come up. They mostly consider them in light of personality disorders, but the end result is the same.

‘Good moral character’.....
If they would enforce that rule the pilot shortage would increase tenfold.
Not to mention 135 operators and entire airlines going under.

So a person would be good as long as they don’t have convictions on the list?

Should be good for SIDA.

But other convictions (or even arrests with no conviction for DUI/substance type offenses) will be an issue when you apply for a medical.

Do all pilots get SIDA or is it dependent on the airline and airport?
