Driving record

I ran a background check on myself and nothing showed up. I’ve had several tickets through the years, how do I find this stuff? For instance, I got a speeding ticket somewhere on I-75, somewhere between Ohio and Florida, sometime between 1991-1993, the rest of the details are in Kavanaugh country. Just assume it’s buried forever?

I think the best advice generally given is to give your best effort to be truthful giving general timeframes. It seems most things like this drop off after a certain period of time.

If an application asks some thing like “Have you ever had a moving violation, accident, etc?” answer it literally regardless of whether or not it’ll show up on a driving record. It will look better if you admit your mistakes voluntarily than running the risk of potentially being caught in a lie.

I would never lie, but honestly don’t think I could remember all of the tickets I’ve had. I do remember getting a ticket in Los Angeles for making an illegal right turn on green, $500!

So most people make a wag on applications, best honest effort?

If WAG is all you’ve got then that’s all you can work with. All I could remember on a couple of tickets was month and year. If it comes up in an interview just admit the dates may not be exact but they are best guess.

Just a suggestion. Lose the attitude that this is a formality and doesn't really matter. It matters to the putative employer or they wouldn't be asking. Extraneous jibes like "Kavanaugh country" may impress your friends, but they'll pi$$ off half the people who will be interviewing you while failing to favorably impress the other half.

While that might not disqualify you at the regional level it's a bad habit to get into.

If you can't remember "all the tickets" you've had you might have a bigger problem.

For the tickets I couldn’t rember the exact details I put the best I could remember and “(date and location estimated)” and had no issues.

EDIT - but DON’T fail to list any tickets you remember even if they don’t show up on any checks.

Sorry if I come off with an attitude. Not taking anything lightly. Of course I wouldn’t say kavanaugh country in an interview. Trying to keep the conversation light, looking for others input. Jeez, lighten up.

If remembering every ticket from 1983 until today is a requisite display of mental fitness, then I concede, I have a bigger problem. I would guess I’ve had 5-10 tickets in that timeframe and can’t remember them all. If it does me in, so be it. I’ll do my best as always and good things will happen hopefully.
