Cape Air FO position
I am very crossed on this, it seems like a good opportunity but I’m not sure , I am struggling to find something different, but should I take this route? I see that this commitment is long and I estimate it would most likely take me till the end of the year to get 1500 hours to become a captain with cape, I do have a CJO with express and obviously if I do take this that will go out the window, but the benefits at least at the end of contract time with cape will put me onto a pathway program with spirit or JetBlue. I’m curious if anyone else has done this route and have enjoyed it or haven’t .

pathway programs are a dime a dozen and come and go with no guarantees. Get solid hands on experience and get in a regional as soon as possible - one that flies pressurized aircraft at jet or turboprop speeds with more than 20 pax.

I began “this journey” by being a FO at Cape Air and I can’t speak more highly of their program. Yes, you’re not in a big, shiny jet but you ARE exposed to real flying. Icing, low IMC, difficult airspace, and eventually...single pilot ops. At the time, I had interviews lined up with several regionals and took the Cape Air job put in my time, flew my A** off as an FO. Before I knew it, I was PIC and getting valuable PIC time/experience. Flying aside, it’s a great company with great people. It’s all in what you make it and it comes down to what fits your objectives, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I'd say no to Cape Air. Don't take a job where they will bump you as an FO if there is an extra revenue passenger. There are airlines in Alaska like ACE Alaska Cargo Express where you can be an FO on a 1900 without a contract and gain great experience.
One thing to be said about Cape Air is that you will get good experience in busy airspace being an FO which is good, but you can just as easily get that at a real regional when you have 1500 hours.

What is the contract like for a new FO? Do you have any insight to the captain contracts? Also, do they allow 1200-hour captains or is Cape Air strictly 1500-hour for captains?
